Yet 1 I this injury may .have been received by . , earlier generations only. Thus the par- , | rats of the guinea-pigs mentioned were . I j untreated, their four grandparents were t Jalso n«treat"d» but their great -grandfathers were all alcoholized and their.
great grandmothers were all normal animals. The defective eyes of descendants are due to impaired development, not to the direct action of alcohol Plainly the germ cell is actually weakened, if not disabled by the alcohol ■ treatment and all individuals arising Horn combinations involving such a germ cell are likely to be below normal. Aa The Journal of the American Medical Associations says, then- ia food for reflection in these facts. . THAT "DEAR DOG" AGAIN Six' persons, four boys, a woman and | a girl — were bitten by a dog a few j [days ago. The dog was killed. There] is some satisfaction to be drawn from ' that fact. IXig lovers will probably aav that j tin- animal was a "tramp # dag;" tnat ] animals of the same kind that are ! family |«-ts should not be condemm-d for its acta. But it happen* that several dog-. These dogs are atill alive. j If it were possible to train a dog 1 to set its teeth into the flesh of its owner when seized (bv a biting frenzy | there would tie less reason for complaint. But. unfortunately, the biting . is done oiltRide tlie dog owner's faml- ! Iv, and there is no 'redress for the j suffering that follows. The Jersey Journal in a sarca-tu-j vein, treats the dog question as f«l- j lows: ' "If it is true, as reported, that the state hoard of health is to recommend , to the next legislature the enactment of j a law requiring dogs to be muzzled- when j abroad, every day in the year, we shall have a war of our own in New Jersey. "Yet rabies is said to be on the increase in this state and mad dog scares become almost fashionable. Eng- I lland has a law that requires all dog-«] jat large to be muzzled, and from all j ' reports the law works satisfactorily, j j True, there are reputed scientists who j maintain that rabies is a myth and op-, I pose the muzzling of dogs at any time. ! learned opinion is against them.
