I 316 and 317 Washington Street. THE NEED OF A PUBLIC LIBRARY Salem. X. •!.. lias an active Parent - Teachers' Association and this organisation is making a strong effort to secure a public library and the statement of the Resident of the Association in regard t<r the need of such a library i' just as applicable to Cape May as to Salem and we. therefore, ipiote it. as follows: "Salem is sadly in need of such a place to counteract influences that tend to make truants of boys and even worse of girls, who are educated on the streets at night, and tbev are countless. A love of books— good books— can ] only be instilled into the hearts and minds of men and women, by being of- / fered to them freely, in the most atS. tractive manner, by a trained librarian, preferably, when they are children, kindergarten age ia none too early. \At present, the motion picture habit

is being cultivated to an enormous extent. Would it not be worth whip «•> cultivate a love books, in an attractive place as well! Xo public spirited man or woman who is acquainted with aociologieal conditions in dear old Salem (and all may learn who will), can afford to be opposed to a movement from which nothing but good can result. I make a personal appeal to all thpeople from the least to the greatest, from laborer to Capitalist, to be arousH to a live and cooperative interest in this project of establishing a Free Library in Balera for better fitting our boys, our girls, our men and our women, to more thoroughly fullfil their obligations to their God. each other and onr beloved home town, the City of Salem." Atlantic City has a fine public lihrary with thousands of books housed in a beautiful building contributed by ; Andrew Carnegie. Ocean City has a public library which is winning success and appreciation. Why not Cape May ! . A public librarj- is a recognised noces- | wity In every progressive community. | HOME AND SCHOOL ASSOCIATION 'Owing to circumstances, the regular monthly meeting of the Home and School Association will be held on Wednesday evening. Unfortunately ^ great many dairymen are not breeders ' of cattle. Thej- are content to purchase ' the most part all cowi that they ' need to supplement their dairy herds, j and at best this is verj- expensive and unsatisfactory practice . ^ In such practice lies a danger from contagion, . not only from tuberculosis, from abortion, and now foot ami mouth disease. It would -seem that the j time was ripe for dairj-men to abandon . this practice, and create in New Jersey the atmosphere of a cattle breeding community. According to the Animal ' at the Sew Jersey Ex- ® , periment Station, there is every reason " believe that dairv heifers can be grown usefulness with economy, and home , are more profitable and satis- " Until the quarantine is lifted there ' will nncloi'btedlj- be a shortage of dairy cows. end if the dsirv farmer would appreciate the advantage of having his dairy cows freshen in the fall, and the result of the services of a pure bred and registered bull. pmrtdin« the cows in - herd were profit making units, there would be within two or three years no necessity for bringing in dairy cows , from other sections. ' North Jersey particularly offers unequaled opportunities for breeding dairy rattle. Sussex County notably has a right to become famous as a dairj- breedcenter. Winter dairying is more profitable in New Jersey than milk production during the summer months, and every effort should be made by New ( farmers to take advantage o' the opportunity resulting from a scarcity of milch cows, to breed the type that has proved its usefulness in our dairy herds. The progressive dairy farmer, in this State should be a breeder rather than a dealer m dairy animals. STOVES, HEATERS AND RANGES Call and see our line of Store Boards Hods. Oil Cloths.
