DANGER IN DELAY Kidney Diseases Are Too Dangerous for Cape May Court House People to Neglect The great danger of kidney troubles is that they so often get a firm hold before the sufferer recognizes them. Health will be gradually undermined. Backache, headache, nervousness, lameness, soreness, lumbago, urinary troubles, dropsy gravel and Bright's disease often follow in merciless succession. Don't neglect your kidneys with Doan's Kidney Pills, which are so strongly recommended right here in this locality. Stanley Benstead, 801 Queen Street. Cape May, N. J., 6ays: 'Tor twenty years - suffered from kidney trouble. After doing a hard day's work, my back ached severely. When I got up in — the morning. I felt lame and sore. I ^ became tired easily, felt dull and lanTuid and at times was bothered by a '• blurring of my s'"ht. The kidney seg erc'un* contained sediment and I was obi i fed to get up many times during the night on account of their frequency in passage. THE JTJGHT OF FLIES j One of the problems that -haajl arisen in connection with the part II played by insects as carriers of di- I sea ae concerns the distance which I they may be able to travel from I locality to another. This has I frequently been considered in this I country in connection with mosqui- j toes which are responsible for the | prevalence of malaria. With their breeding-places known, it has be- . come desirable in some cases to ascertain what the range of their ac- ' tivities might be in respect to the territory which can be covered by insects. It has been learned that mosquitoes which inhabit salt I marshes near the seacoast may be found inland at a distance as great as three miles. Far less appears to be known ' : with regard to the migrations of It lie common house-fly, an insect j charged with responsibility for ty3 phoid fever and other infectious ' diseases. A series of studies con1 ducted in Cambridge, England, on j the range of the flight of flies of this species lias been made the subject of a report to the Local Govf eminent Board of Public Health ^ and Medical Subjects. Upward of 2 ">.000 flies were liberated, under various meteorologic conditions,

f rotn the medical buildings at Cambridge. Of these insects, colored identification. 191 were recovered. The results showed that house-flies tend to travel either against or across the wind. The actual direction followed may he determined either directly and by / the aMion of the wind, or indirectj ly owing to the flies being attract- | ed by odors from food. A point in favor of this supposition is the nature of the station at which flies were recovered after they had traveled any distance. These com- £ prised a butcher's shop, public - j and a restaurant, all of I I which gave off odors that are no- ' Itoriously attractive to flies. The chief conditons favoring the disj persal of flies are fine weather and 'a warm temperature. The nature of the locality is another considerable factor, because in towns flies do not travel as far as in open country. probably due to the and shelter afforded by the f houses. With regard to the alti j tude of the point of liberation, flies set free from the roof tended to —

disperse slightly better than those ^ liberated from the ground, but the _ are not very considerable. It has been observed, with regat*d to the vertical flight of the _ house fly. that it may mount di- J rectly upward to ahcight of fortyfeet or more. The time of day appears to influence the dispersal of the inserts, as. apparently, when set free in the afternoon they do _ not scatter so well as when liberated in the morning. * The maximum flight observed in the thickly housed localities in Cambridge was about a quarter of a mile. In one ease, where a part i of the distance was across open fenland. a flight of 770 yards was noted. In ' experiments conducted in Cook County. Illinois, by S. A. Forbes, flies were trapped* and, after being sprayed with a chemical solution for recognition, were : liberated from a hospital in that : district. They too were recovered i at distances ranging up to a quar- : ter of a mile from the point of lib- ' 1 eration. The distance flies may - [ travel to reach dwellings is conr troled bv circumstances. Almost ' any reasonable distance may be 1 covered by the fly under compul- ^ sion to reach food and shelter.
