THE PREPARATION OF SELFBOILED LIME-SULPHUR For the benefit of Uioee who do not ' understand the making up of self-boil- i ed lime-sulphur the writer is giving full ' directions and each operation should be ] followed closely so as to obtain a mixture that will be effective yet not cause | burning on the foliage. Weigh out eight pounds of rammer rial sulphur flour that is perfectly free ■ from lumps, placing same in any open i receptacle that will hold five gallons of 1 water < add enough water to make a smooth paste just wet enough to pour from the receptacle stirring well to break any lumps and to get the sulphur well united with the water. Then put eight pounds of stone lime in a fifty gallon barrel and start the lime slacking using warm water if the lime is alow to act. When the slacking becomes vigorous pour in the sulphur adding enough water from time to time to keep the material from burning but not enough to drown the lime. Keep the mixture well stirred v itli a paddle and when the vigorous action has ceased cool down this material ini mediately by filling the barrel wi;ti If the hot mixture is allowed to stand for a time before cooling down eonsid eraUe soluble sulphur is formed and this will burn the tender foliage of the pearh tree. A good material should be of a slight orange yellow color. Where considerable material is to be made tip it is recommended to use twen-ty-four pounds of lime and twenty-four pounds of sulphur, thereby getting n more vigorous action and making a le t ter material in less time. This amount of lime and sulphur is sufficient for one hundred and fifty gallons of spray material. This self -boiled lime-sulphur must be used the day it is made as it rftnnot be held over like concentrated material. A spray pomp with a good agitator hi very essential while, using self hoi led lime-sulphur as the heavy material soon, settles to the bottom of the barrel if •!«■- agitator is not kept constantly moving If the shove directions ar-- followed I closely thee- will be less trouble in mak "iwg tin and *t»*-.vine with self -b>}!lcd ! line. anl.-Vr Tb- addition ar*ens*» cf |ead will give the material « muddv eolor hot doe* n-t effcet it* eff'rirnev. a gnc1 -e. -tr — ' lime nan b- obtained feom Ppim-v I -me and Cement 0>mrsov. ins Park W.m.,e.
