An Ordinance An Ordinance authorizing and empowering Cape May Light and Power Company, and its successors and assigns, to erect and maintain poles, and to string, contract, maintain and operate wires and electrical conductors, fixtures and appliances thereon, in, on, over and along all the streets, avenues, roads, alleys, lanes, squares and other public places of the City of Cape May, for the purpose of conveying electricity and supplying light, heat and power to the citizens of the City of Cape May, and others. Whereas, by an ordinance of the City of Cape May, entitled, "An ordinance to authorize the 6ale of the electric light plant and franchise of the City of Cape Mav. to Waters B. Miller." approved to
June 14th, 1886, it Was among other " provided that the Electric Light bi of the City of Cape May, including one fifty horse power engine, about four miles of wire, be the same more or - lecss, poles, pulleys and other equipments, together with the exclusive franof furnishing the City of Cape with electric lights for and during the period of ninety-nine years from pi the date of the approval of the said or- p dinance, upon the terms therein stated, should be conveyed to one Waters B. Mllier, his heirs and assigns; and " Whereas, by virtue of successive con- d veyances, the said Cape May Light and 5, PoWer Company is now the owner of . the said Electric Light Plant, poles, wires, and other machinery and equip- 0 ment, and is now operating the same: Now, Therefore, The Board of Commissioners of the City of Cape May, a ordain: a Section 1. That Oapc May Light and a Company and its successors and tl assigns, be and the same are hereby authorized and empowered to erect and maintain poles, and to string, construct, maintain and operate wires and electrical conductors, fixtures and appliances, in, on. over and along all the streets, ( avenues, highways, roads .alleys, lanes, squares and other public places of the r City of Cape May, for the purpose of t conveying electricity and supplying ^ light, heat and power to the citizens of r the City of Cape May and others. - Section 2. That all poles which shall hereafter l>e erected under this ordinance, on any street, avenue, highway, s road, alley, lane, square or public place in the City of Cape May, shall be lo- . cated, placed and erected under the direction and supervision of the governing body of the City of Cape May. or of the Department of .the said City c having control and jurisdiction of the . Provided, however, that no poles shall f used for lighting the beach front or f at any time without the ( consent and approval of the governing ( body of the city. Section 3. That as to those streets, . avenues and roads in the City of Cape May. on which no poles arc now erected, c a permit shall be obtained from the governing body of the said City of Cape . May. or from tlic department of said City of Cape May, having control si < jurisdiction of the streets of the said City, before any poles shall l>e erected 1 thereon under this ordinance. 1 Section 4. That the said poles shall 1 • be reasonably straight and properly and . 1 neatly dressed, and shall be located . and erected in such manner as in no way to interfere with the safety or convenience of persons traveling on or over the said streets, avenues, highways, , roads, alleys, lanes or squares. Section 5. That the said Cape May • Light and Power Company, and its successors, shall indemnify and save harmless the said Cit*- of Cape May. , from and against any and all costs, expenses or damages whatsoever, arising out of or by reason of the erection or maintenance of the said poles, wires, conductors, fixtures and appliances, in. on, over and along the said streets, avenues. highways, roads, alleys, lanes, squares and other public places of the City of Cape May. Section 6. That the authorization I and consent hereby granted shall conItinue in full force ad effect for the ternT of fififty years from and after ' the date of the final passage of this ordinance. SURAL CARRIER EXAMINATION. The United 8tat*a Civil ^Service Ctaamitaion has announced an examination for the County of Cape May, New Jersey, to be held at Cape May, Wild wood. Ocean City, on January 22, 1916, to fill the position of rtiral earner at Cape May Court House, and vacancies that may later occur on rural route* from other post offices in the above-mentionet-county. The examination will be open only to male citizens who arc actually domiciled in the territory of a post office in the county and who meet the other requirements set forth in Form No. 1977. This form and application blanks may be obtained from the offices mentioned above or from the United States Civil Service Commission at D. C. Application should forwarded to the Commission at the earliest practical date.
