CONGRESSMAN BACHARACH'S , INLAND WATERWAY BILL. Washington, January 29— Congress- fa Bacharaah yesterday' introduced a / in Congress, known as H- R. 10303, / to "Provide for an examination, survey, * and estimate of cost oC an Inland Wat- fa on the Atlantic Coast of the fa 8taie of New Jersey, between Cape May ■ and New York Bay, New York and New C Jersey." fa In speaking of his bilk Mr. Baeharaoh 5 said that he introduced this "bttt in ac- 3 ' cordance with resolutions adopted by fa the Chamber of Commerce of Cape May 4) County Seashore Resorts, which was fa concurred in by the Atlantic City Cham- fa of Commerce. y fa It contemplates the establishment of / an inland water route, with an 'avail- J depth/of fifteen feet, or such depth fa may be practicable, between Dela- fa ware Bay and proceeding 4a. a northerly fa direction to New York Bay7-conncctSng fa the Government built porta of Cape fa May and Atlantic Oity, and traversing the resorts of Spring Lake, Anbury " Park, Ocean Grove, Long Branch, Al- | , lenhurst. Deal and the communities in t)«e Rnmson Road District, thus af- - fording an inside route for deep draught vessels from Cape May to New York . Bay, giving facilities for the shipment of commodities of all kinds, including i fruits, vegetables and farm products, oysters, clams, fish, hay, lumber, etc., : between the many popular and rapidly growing seashore resorts along the I coast and the mainland communities ad1 jacent thereto. I The bill also contemplates the availi ability of this route for military and I naval uses by craft of medium and I light draft moving between the cities of Philadelphia and New York " and I I other communities along the Delaware j - and Hudson Rivers, and it provides ' ' 1 that in making the investigation the 1 J Secretary of War shall take under con- ' j side ration any proposition with a view ' 1 to cqpperation on the part of state or ' other local interests. ! ' The advantages that would aocrue to the summer resorts along the coast, ; ' should this, work be undertaken and ' completed by the Government, are at ' once apparent to those ~ fanuliar with ' that portion of the State embracod 1n ' the bill. Everyone knows that the waters of the Hudson and Long island ; Sound abound with pleasure boats during the summer, while the greater New J fork District numbers its yacht club-* and its motor boats by the thousands. J The trip down the coast is apt to be dangerous and for that reason is not at- ' tempted by inexperienced _ navigators, t ' hut a trip down the proposed, inside ' route would be no more dangerous than ® an automobile route and it would be : another avenue of communication be- ' tween the coast resorts and New York. ' ! i audition to the pleasn'o i-atnrvs, it w< uld afford a means of cheaper" freight I , on commodities shipped throiiylit It. j j , Tor this reason Mr. Bacharavli believes j jtlij-t his bill woi.M hate th ' support of i j the North Jersey Congressmen and il- j ' •••_• the members of New * ,rk <~".r and ' _ ! nc nrby district', The bill has been referred to the j I Rivers and Harbors Committee and Mr. j ; Bacharach hopes for its adoption. He i ! will endeavor to arrange for a hearing i before the Committee on his bill at an | early date, at which time those ipler- | j est i-d in the project will be given an [ ! opportunity to be heard.
