In figuring the general result account of all conditions affecting same have been carefully considered, as follows. T Ares of zones and length of beats, weather prevailing, special duty perp. formed, etc. Beginning March first it may be said ill that all officers have performed satisle factory to perfect service. They have le been constantly available and all spec3 ial calls have been promptly responded it to. Such service must be fairly reP- warded, and Buch increase In remunerr" ation as may be necessary to maintain high efficiency is being carefully considered. Results alone count; previous to February 20th last there was no system by

t which same were at all dear; all ins dicatipna however pointed to less real . value of service than the City was pay- , ing for, in other words, to a loss. But ■ now that we know how duty is being performed, and realizing that good ofI fleers cannot be secured and -retained at . a loss fm themselves, we are working . a system by which we hope to ere long . ascertain a rate of pay so fair and just, I alike to the officers and the City, as to . make first class police duty a aomewhat desirable and profitable ocoupe- . tion ; and at a cost showing a profit to the City also.
