CAPE MAT WELL LISTED IN RESOBT BOOK the annus] booklet on New Jersey seashore resort* that i* put out by the Pennsylvania Railroad baa again listed Oape May. very high in comparison with other resorts. In addition to the written article an excellent photograph of the Hotel Cape May is also used. These booklet s are being distributed gratuitously through the Company's ticket agents and are made up in very fine etyle. The account about Cape May is as follows: — CAPE MAY, N. J. Pew resorts in the world have stood the test of time like Cape May. More than a century ago parties of vacationists from Philadelphia journeyed to the Southern end of New Jersey to enjoy the fine surf bathing and the good air at Chpe May. And today it is still visited by thousands every year who appre- ' date its.' many good points. The stimulation which is natural pro- j gress received some years ago by the • enlargement of its area in the creation i of the large cottage and hotel section, ' . reclaimed from Poverty Beach by the c originators of Sew Cape May, has) Bounded a new note in its history. The witchery which clung to Old Cape • May is as enticing as ever, but a new • life has awakened. The isaiue homelike 1 quiet pervades the Cottage life; flfr- same ' social atmosphere is manifest jn the I hotels, and there is the same absence i of showy display in dress and function, (' hut there is an awakening to, and a new 1 appreciation of, .the splendid advan- 1 tages of the century -old resort as a ] summer, or an all -year- visiting piacc. i Hundreds of cottages have been erect- 1 ■ ed in the jew _>oction near the splendid- j < ly equipped Hotel Cape May, which re- « opens this year for thc ninth season since 1 its completion. This house, which is | built like a battleship, absolutely fire- j* proof and complete in every appoint- j i ment, is the center of the social- life of i - , New Cape May, whilst the older houses j ' in the elder section maintain the high ! 1 . reputation for comfort that they have I ' always borne. i The long ocean boulevard, sixty feet * Wide, extending to SeweQ's Point, and i thence around the Harbor to Washing- f ton Street, at Schellinger's Landing, provides a matchless drive, which at no 1 point is more than one hundred feet * from high tide, for a distance of five 1 miles. An electric car line connects |c these two points with a loop around the ' Harbor, bringing the house and grounds ft of the Corinthian Yacht and Country 1 Chib ' within easy access. Parallel to ' » the drive, and extending its full length 1 on the ocean front. j« .the new board- jt NOT ENOUGH CHILDp ever receive the proper balance of food i " to sufficiently nourish both body and j 1 brain during the growing period when !j nature's demands are greater than in mature life. walk, twenty feet in width, and just I high enough abcrve -the waves to clear the average storm tide. This ocean - promenade is unique in the fact that it e is actually at the ocean's edge and from A every inch of it there is an unobstrnct l! ed view of the mighty Atlantic. i The new land-locked harbor has a wae ter front of -five miles, and an average . e depth of thirty-five feet. It is connected , - with the ocean by a Government-built t inlet, eight hundred and fifty feet wide , b and thirty feet in depth. [ I This harbor is pronounced by yachts- j ( s men as the ideal yachting rendezvous. , It is large enought to accommodate in ' . perfect safety all the pleasure craft of ; , 1 the Atlantic Coast, and it is said that . e a dozen warships could manocuver with- 1 - in its confines. e The beach, hard as a race track, is a , b splendid highway for the motor car - I while the new ocean boulevard and the , - country pikes furnish tlie driver and the i ■ motorist wiih a satisfying field for op- i Public pavilions are located on the ; j ocean side of (he boardwalk. On the I main pavilion a band is maintained by , the city, giving three free concerts daily i ' ■ during the summer sjeasqn. i J The Cape May Yacht Club, which has j been attractively housed for many years, 1 ■ is a prominent factor in the social life , 1 • of the resort. The fine club house of the | ■ Corinthian Yacht and Country Club oc- > . t-upies a prominent' place in the social' ■ of New Cape May. It is unique in I i many features, and compares favorably ! , with any similar Institution on the At- .« ! Coast. f A large fleet of privately -owned r yachts make Cape May one of the bus- j small-craft port* along the New Jer- " | scy seaeoast. A number of races and contests are held every year which at- ' tract yachtsmen from all parts of the Out-of-door life is the striking char- ' jacteristic at Cape May. The surf bathjing is admittedly the best and safest in' j America, while the beach is the finest. I j The entire colony spend a portion of 1 loach day in the water and on the sands, j i The Golf ^Club claims the allegiance of I j its devotees on a green that is unequal- J led at the seashore. | There is also an attractive amusement i 1 pavilion which provides the usual lines I i of entertainment for young and old, { I while a grand Casino and a Pavilion has erected at Sewell's Point. ! The magnificent physical advantages j I of bape May, its recognition by the ' i National Government as the fittest point j the Atlantic. Coast as a harbor for j -j the refuge for all classes of vessels, and | j its complete railroad facilities make it I I one of the most important, as well as jjthe most charming resorts on the Allanj t ie- seaboard. j Peace at any price would make, a big- j jger hit- with the women,- if a price werej j given it, gnd announcement made that ; |it had been reduced to 8L4S, J Whet Berlin simply can't understand j Dg "Why. while the British were about 'it: jfe Dublin, they ftdli't'TtSLa few' hundred • (Vfuften and bali^.s.Ju^L-to prove thtir , !"•& - - i I Every day of the Mexican peril "helps j j to show up the anti-preparedness outfit. ■

A number of local high school boys have signified their intention of taking the competitive examinations far scholi arshipe to Rutgers College, In New \ Brunswick, which will be held at the County Court House on Friday and Saturday, June 2nd and 3d. Sixty of these t scholarships are offered every year, an.! the boys who are fortunate enough ' to win them are given free t#tion at the State College. The growth of Rutgers in the past fewyears has been exceedingly gratify in, to the people of the State. Situated in _ New Brunswick, almost midway between New -York and Philadelphia, the eouego "on the banks of the old Rarltan ' !*•> a student body of almost dtps hundred. It offers courses leading to the degrees of Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Letters, and Bachelor of Science. Probably the most popular course is Agriculture. A college farm of three hundred acres is situated about one mile from the Kueen'a I campus, and is used exclusively by students taking this course. It contains all the necessary farm stock and buildings to give the boj-s practical application of . the theories of tarm management which j they learn in the class rooms. One of the features of the life at Rutgers is the military training, which every student is required to take. This includes instruction in military tactics by an officer of the United States army, , battalion drill, and other features d' - I signed to train the students to take their , places as officers in the regular army, should this nation be called to arms. The competitive examinations for State Scholarships are arousing un- , i usual interest this year. CHRISTIANITY AND THE WAR ' The new emphasis on religion in Europe is well known. Each potentate • claims God on his side, troops pray before entering battle, it is reported that ^ hundreds of thousands of Testaments are being thumb-marked in the trenches, revivals are on pi France and Bulgaria , ' liquor and luxury have been tabooed, ' ' and the simple life, which is psycholog- ' ically related to the religious life, has ! j been made the rule, j It is difficult, if not impossible, to de- 1 | fine the underlying cause of so subtle a I thing as a world-wide spiritual renais- i " ^ sance. Perhaps the coming "of the war ! I ' j and the revival at the same time are j I (only a colossal coincidence. On the oth- j | | er hand, there is ground for the theory j • J that the horrors and desolation of war ' I ' ' solemnized the world and have had i the effect of driving the people back I ' upon divine security. At any rate the renaissance is mi and • missionary Christendom is faced with | ; the greatest opportunity in its history.— I ' "The World's New Turning to 1 Christianity," by Willard Price, in the | I American Review of Reviews for June ' •; i Paul Revere was not given tlme^ to organize a preparedness parade or he might have done so. , I KISSEL KAR i1 (Every Inch A Car)
