This is the first step taken by the Government in the improvement of any waterway. Due to the persistent efforts of the Congressman, his bill was included in the Rivers and Harbors Bin which became a law on July 27th. As soon as the bill was signed by t^ President, Mr. Bacharach promptly took -the matter up with the United States Engineer's office , st Wilmington, Del., which office is -in charge of all waterwag^JmprovemcnU . in the Second Congressional District. He urged uporuth* Engineer in charge the advisability of prompt «$tion, pointing out to him the dangers to life and prop- g erty there were constantly being met j with by those mariners' who daily use the Inlet, and which is greatly increas- j ed by the numerous visitors to Anglesea and Wildwood during the summer c months; and suggesting that right now is the time for the engineers to obtain a correct idea of the amount of traffic ; that passes through the channel. J Acting upon these representations the engineer in charge has called up Mr. • Bacharach for the names of any parties particularly interested in this improvement, from whom may be obtained statistics as to the use made of Hereford Inl.-t and who woul<) be able to * give valuable information as to what is 5 desired in the way of improvement. ^ Mr. Baeharacli has submitted to the Department the names of the several gentlement who called upon him in January, and he has also communieated with these men asking that they be pre- _ pared to submit to the Department when E called for such data and statistics as to the amount of commerce passing through the inlet. J Through the columns of this paper Mr. = Bacharach desires to bring this matter to the attention of all those who may "" be interested in the improvement of Hereford with the suggestion that the ie write immediately to Major J.
