Agriculture, Carpentry, Plumbing, BUckmnithing Household Arts are the ooorses which are being offered. This vocational dchool is supported by the county and by the state. The state and county provides the instruction and equipment sad running expenses of the center schooL The different communities in which the schools are held are expected to pay for their own equipment and running expenses, a small fee being charged to each student for the materials used in oooking and sewing. The center Vocational School is loeated at Cape May Court House. Classes of pupils from Cape May Court House, Stone Harbor, Dennisville, Diss Creek and other places are attending there and students of any age above 14 years may be admitted to the day classes. Men and women over 17 yean of age are admitted to * evening classes, either at the center schools or wherever established. . 1 The educational authorities and many citizens are realizing that vocational training is needed in order to'" " (1) Conserve and develop national resources, (2) Prevent waste of human labor, (8) Provide a supplement to apprenticeship, (4) Increase wage earning power, (5) Meet the increasing demand for trained workmen, (6) Offset the increased cost of living. Instruction in Household Arts is being given in the northern part of the county as well as the southern part. There has been organized in the southern part of Cape May County the following HOUSEHOLD ARTS COURSE classes: 1. Girls classes in sewing and cookery at West Cape May Chapel, Monday afternoon. 2. Women's class in Domestic Science at West Cape May, Monday evening, 7.30 p. m. 3. Girl's class in cookery, Cold Spring, Tuesday afternoon, 4.00 p. m., held at Munsy's store. 4. Women's class in Domestic Science, Munsy's store, Cold | Spring, Tuesday afternoon. 2 P- m5. Girls' class in cookery, Cape May City, Wednesday, 3.30 p. m. and Saturday morning, 10.00 a. tu. 6. Women's class in Domestic Art, Cape May Court House, | Thursday, 2.00 . m. 7. Women's class in Domestic Science at Cape May City, ' Thursday evening, 7.30 in the flat over J. H. Hughes' office. 8. Classes in Domestic Science and Domestic Art are held at Cape May Court House for the women of Stone Harbor and elsewhere, Friday afternoon from 2 to 5 p. m. 9. Women's class in Domestic Art, Cape May City, Saturday afternoon, 3.00 p. m., in the flat over J. H. Hughes' office. All girls of 15 years of age and women of any age are invited to join any of these classes. Miss Elizabeth L. Deacon, a graduate of Columbia University and Iowa State College and a woman of wide experience, is the instructor for the lower half of the county, including the classes above designated. Miss A. Ethel Nickerson is the instructor for the northern half of the county and has classes at Woodbine, Eldora, Tuckahoe, Sea Isle City, Stone Harbor and Cape May Court House. A very small proportion of women at the head of households have had training in Domestic Science and Domestic Art. A ! knowledge of Domestic Art and Domestic Science will enable any wdman to be a better home-inaker in any community. It will enable her to buy economically and wisely, to plan and prepare meals conducive to the best health of her family, to select with, wisdom and good taste the best and most appropriate clothing and furnishings for her home; to manage the home systematically for the good of all its members and to enter into the problems of social life intelligently. If a woman can gee only the drudgery and grind of housework any more monotonous than some of the occupations which work, of course it becomes monotonous. «But even then, is housethe husbands, fathers and brothers must follow! If you think so, visit a glass factory, or follow a farmer around one day. A woman is directly responsible for the happiness and health of her family, a man, only indirectly. Which has the higher, more soul -inspiring work! There are so many phases to household arts why should it be monotonous! If a banker or a merchant must run his business systematically in order to obtain the highest profits, why shouldn't a housewife realize that system, and, planning is just as necessary in her household. The housewife's profit is good health and hoppiness of the family and her own leisure time. County Vocational Schools have been established because it is desired that Cape May County shall have every good thing which will promote its prosperity and happiness and it is to be hoped that the largest interest will be shown in this new movement.
