CITY BOARD (1 a LU) > MEET IN — PROTESTATION | A> GAINST ENORMOUS RAILROAD FARES WHICH EXCEED THOSE or OTHER JERSEY RESORTS The Cape May Board of Trade held a meeting at City Hall on Tuesday evening, | President Ogden presiding. The object of the meeting was to protest against the discrimination of the railroads in raixing the rate of carfare above that of other resorts along the New Jersey coast. Compliauts against increased | railroad rates to South Jersey seashore resorts have been made to C. M Burt, in New York, in charge of passenger rates in the eastern district Railroad Administration. This was announced by Luther Ogden, chairman of the railroad committee of the Cape May County Chamber of Commerce. He said he had arranged an interview with Mr. Burt after failing to get satisfaction from administration officials here. "We have learned that Mr. Rurt has charge of our matter and we are going to lay our case before him," he said. "The conditions are out . "Before the war-that is, in 19I7Cape May had a year-round tourist rate of $2.50. Now we are cut out of the tourist rate except between May 15 and September 30. The only points that are allowed the year-round rate on the Jersey coast are Atlantic City and Asbury Park. "The round-trip winter rate to Cape May from Philadelphia ig now $4.82, mot counting the eight per cent. war tax. This is an increase in rates of minety-two per cent. "Ther take the summer rate. It is raised from $2.50, as it was in 1917, to $360, an increase of forty per cent. Atlantic City is rmised from $2.25 to $3.00, which is only an increase of 83 1-3 per cent. "We do not want to be discriminated against. Cape May, Wildwood and Sea Isle City are entitled to the yearround tourist rates just as much as Atlantic City or Asbury Park."
