WOMAN WANTS POSTTION COOK. ing. No washing. Reference. Address M. G., Star and Wave Office, 690 T-5 it MAYFLOWER DESCENDANTS IN CAPE MAY COUNTY By P.v. Paul Sturtevant Howe, Ph.D. Genealogical Articles by the Rector of The Church of the Advent This is the second of a series of Genexlsical Articles by Dr, Howe. Those articles a. « of an unusual value because the author is an unquestioned authority on the subject. In « conversation with Mr. George E. Bowman of Boston, the leading muthority on Pilgrim genealogy, the suggestion was made to the author of these articles that a valuable service could be rendered the subject of Pilgrim ancestry in Cape May County by publishing the earls vital records of South Jersey. The valuable records of the Cold Spring Presbyterian Church have already been published, an the extensive work of Stillwell inciudes an important amount of genem~ logical matter relating to our subject As far as the early history of the County is concerned, the ground has
been fijirly well covered. Remarkably, ‘ncither Stillwell, Dr. Beasley or any writer has given attention to the most interesting fact connected with the early history of the County-namely, (the family history of the first settlers. The writers have been content to muy [that the pioneers came from Long Romie or Europe, without discovering that the whalers and early: settiers brought with them the stock of the ‘Old Colony of Plymouth, the oldest ancestry in America. The method of ‘stimulating interest in the subject by publishing in the Star and Wave cer‘tain | illustrative: pedigrees, already worked out, seems practical and successful. Already as a result of the previous article of last week, additional material haw been placed in the hands of the author. Leaming Descendants of John Howland The Mayflower Pilgrim Christopher Leaming, the Cape May County uncestor of the family, came from Southampton, Long Island, with the first settlers. By his wife Esther (Burnet) he had a son, Thomas, born fess of July, 1674, died — December, Thomas 1728 married, 18 June, 1701, Hannah Thuidis, born at Yarmouth, Massachusetts, 1688, died at Cape May, 1728. Here the Mayflower ancestry of the family begins. As shown in the last article, Hannab Whilldin was the great-grand daughter of John Howland, the Pilgrim, the line of descent being as follows: (1) John Howland, (2) Desire Howland ( John Gorham) (3) Hannah Gorham . (married . Joseph Whitldin), (4) Hannah Whilldin, the Aszon Eldridge, the son of Samuel Lcd 23 Coma O born 2 February, 1785,died 2° July, 1785, He married 29 January, 1761, Elizabeth Stillwell who was born 27 June 1785, died in 1790. Their daughter, Charlotta Eldridge, born 5 April, 1765, died 12 December, 1812, marzied 21 October, 1782, Persons born 23 July, 1786, died 29 esl 1807. Jeremiah Lesming, son of the above Persons and Charlotta was born 25 May, 1792. died at ptl) misville, 26 April, 1899. married at j Dennisville, October, 1814, to Abigail Falenburge, born at Dennisville, 16 February, 1796, died at Mspmine srted 4 December, 1866. Their som, Cole- | man Fisher Leaming, was born . at Dennisville, 6 June, 1818, died at Cape | sd House, LJ C Fanuary Pral _ Dr. Howe requests further informa:
