Probably the | improvement | most Po 3 Ca walk. Other resorts of the same size, and many much emailer than Cape May, have excellent boardwalks, But not so here. City officials have talked for years of plans for a new beach front promeCAPE MAY KNOWN IN SPAIN Cape May has one great advantage over practically every other resort on COF T HI __

The boardwalk as it now exists is a disgrace to a city of this site, In COR Coa EP G. 03 twice as wide would not be able to accommodate the people were they to walk on it. ‘The only reason that one is able to move on the walk at all at the present time is that the people do not care to stroll slong the o c Cn congregate in the vicinity of the City Pier, where there is more réom to walk. In all of the other seashore resorts one will find that a great many people stroll up and down the boardwalk. | seouup sume new walk THIS winter A new boardwalk should be con structed before the opening of the season of 1920 from Windsor avense to Madison avenue. To build a new walk for a shorter distance would not be much of an improvement. . In the

prank for a new wa‘k, 67 77 0000 000 other improvement.. great care should be taken to make certain that the improvement as it is planned would not o o a t A talied Cape May, In building a new board« walk, to give an example of this, the, walk should be built but a few feet above the beach drive. An elevated boardwalk would ruin the attractions of the drive-which is 80 different from anything: at the other resorts and therefore one Of the most valuable asacts of Cape Ma¥- This would be true. In fact the probably new boardwalk should he lower than the section | in front of the Oity Pier. them. Merely the ‘reputation that Cape May enjoys will not keep the people . continuing to come | here. There must be something to back up the reputation. . > "TO MAKE MONEY-SPEND MONEY" If any one doubts the value of a mew board walk let me remind the same people-who were, I dare say, against the construction of the City Pier-of the value the new pier is to the resort. Were it not for this pier all of the other attractions of the resort would fade away for there would not be a suitable gathering place for oe, Sno ed the life of Cape May as a resort. Thousands of people who have come

. din years and who have fowl pemttertes impressed with the city would cer tainly not have felt ms they have were it not for the pier. NEED WIDER BEACH DRIVE The construction of the boardwalk on the ocean side of the trolley tracks is necessary in order that the walk a ca on the land side of the tracks the tracks themsplves would either have to be moved or the beach drive narrowed. . The drive is not wide enough at the present time for the traffic some times of the day, with the exception of the short stretch in front 0 the City Pie. Did you ever notice how congested the conditions are on the beach drive during the bathing hours? . To build the new walk on th ocean aide of the tracks. then, woul make possible a wider walk and als a wider drive. | Both improvement

Pa greatly needed and needed before {the next serson commences. . This work should be commenced early enough to allow for their completion by at least the fifteenth of June 1920. ‘The walk could be constructed during the winter when labor is easier to obtain. ‘This would provide employment for Cape May people during the slack wesson and would do away with the ecessity af importing outside labor. o keep Cape May people employed would make more prosperity in the | City. So, then, for two reasons-the early completion of the new walk and to. provide Cape May people with work during the winter months-let, the knockers of this idea fade into oblivion and the boosters get behind the Mayor and the Commission-
