The purpose for this Fair is to raire funds for the proposed Memorial Building to be erected by the club in memory of the boys from this city who took part in the World War and every man or boy who was a legal resident of the island when he entered the service will be given a life membership in this club. The Club has already taken an option on four lots on Oak Avenue where it in proposed to erect this building and it is the hope and expectation that a goodly sum will be realized in this fair to enable them to go ahead with their project. Miss Baker is reported to be the only woman corporal in the French army and with her regiment, 187th, was awarded the fouragree by the French Republic. She left for Paris on March 10 1917, only intending to LOR Ca c 330 absorbed in her work that she stayed fortwo years, only to return when she was physically unable to continue her arduous duties. . ‘Two and a half months after entering the Red Cros hospital at Paris, because of her aptitude and proficiency, she was sent to the field hospital at the front. . Three weeks later she was made head night baled Miss Baker was a graduate of Goucher College, Baltimore. She was admitted to practice at the Pennay} vania Bar at the age of 20, but never practiced. She was a profilic writer of magazine articles and while at the front spent every cent she earned on the boys under her care.
