GET AFTER CONVENTIONS Motel Men and Prominent Business Men Should Work with Commissioner to Secure Mretings of Orginizations for This City Should Make Tze of the Convention Hall for Original Purpose. Friends Conference Coming Next Year. There are so many things that might be suggested in my weekly letter for the improvement and a vancement hs Cape May that it Emba 19 out the . particularon | that prigd be taken into considera[tion first. Last week I spoke of the [need of a new boardwalk. This is | badly: needed. . But when . the now | boardwalk is completed-and .. built | wide enough to accomodate the num[ber of people who will walk on it in [five or ten years from now who will take advantage of it during the first few years? In other words where will a sufficient number of people to use the new walk to advantage be obtained during the next two or three semsons-even later? I noticed in the Star and Wave for September | 6th that . Josephine H. Tubon, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Friends has issued a fice will held be tevig,in a Cape May ence wil from. eal "th to 14, 1020. More Hotel Boom Next Year. In line with this ides what has been done toward securing other con ventions and conferences for Cape May,? The people will be able to secure . accomodations . with the reyo"g next season of the Hotel care ay, the Hotel Virginia and possibly two or three new hotels. The Hotel Cape May and Hotel Virginia were used to advantage as a hospital and service club during the war but the temporary loss of them as hoteis was keenly felt here during the past two seasons when there should have been Steps should be taken to induce other orginizations to meet at Cape | Can 3 cada | vention Hall which was constructed at a great expense to brive City for the purpose of a suitable meeting place Wave meant there wai bt one person who did any work of any account This condition is bad and ever thing possible should be done to duce the hotel men, the real bmin‘t the city officials prArin in all the citizensof Cape Ma y to take active part in the work of the Boards firma mnany orgin the efforts of his zations could be prrclicyss LJ o their meetings at May. The Convention Hall would be furboating, dancing, and all types ¢ amusements . of the | better | type. What other seashore or mountain sort can offer these advantages? Get After Big Conventions It is, probably, too late to sccure many conventions for the coming year. But then why not let come of the progressive citizens and business men get up a set of real attractive literature telling of the advantages of Cape May as a place for a convention, — This literature, together with a strong letter, could be sent to every convention that is being held in the United States. The various bar nesociations, the Knights Templar the Elks, the trade bodier and others could be the goul of the men working on this object. The majority of orginizations decide where they will meet the follow» ing year when they are holding their convention — With this in mind when a body meeting at another resort along the Atlantic const would it not be a good plan to rend a personal rance backed up with fare placate he — could encourage ge orginization to meet st Cape May
and — explain . all the | inducements offered. Would Boom This Resort, | Some Cape Muyuns may not favor | the conventions. coming. here. However, when men go to m convention they gencrally | take . their families! with them, and if the place is attrac- | tive they may . decide to | summer there. This would not only bring a! | temporary hotel trade for the time of the convention but there would also he u number of people who would get to know of the attractions at Cape May — and who would decide to become cottagers. | One of the most prominent exam- | ples of how a resort can be built up us a result of conventions . may be seen in Asbury Park. This resort
has enjoyed a great growth from such meetings and Cape May would also grow larger in a shorter. tim@ than without. these conferences. Commence Work Now. Let the Commbodoners get after these mertings now, this week if pose sible, in order that the bodies may be induced to come here next summer, Why be satisfied with the Friends" Conference and the P. 0. 8 of A. emvention for . the coming . season? The organizations will not come here urdess they ure asked to and offered some conveniences by coming to Cape May — So, then, let the hotel men and others got to-gether and start things moving in this line No#!
