O Ge Tee The Cape May Pomona Grange may, be said to "beard round" fos six of the seven meetings that make up its piennial course but, for the seventh and at which is held its clecton it always goes home to the Mother Grange at Dias Creek and in whose afternoon and evening of October 21. Aust. The afternoon session will be for Pomona business and will include the biennial election and, attendance is limited to Fifth Degree mebers and with the Worthy o Master George Sayre f epioua all The evening session will open and free to the public. There will be an entertainment by local talent (and this means in both recitation and music) and with A. D. T. Howell the Pomona Lecturer as director. The dinner and Social Hour will follow the Pomona Session. A proposition likely to be made at the Pomona Sesion is of conferring the Fifth or Pomona Degree in full form at the State Grange Meeting in Atlantic City in December and by a team from the Cape May Pomona and with its paraphenalia as the setting. ‘This to proceed and lead up to the conferring of the Sixth or State Degree, the one banquet of the Sixth or State Degree, the one banquet of the Sixth serving for both. While this is customary in Pennsylvania and some other state the Pomona has never been yet part of the New Jersey State Grange programme, the applicants for the Sizth being obligated and to be fully initiated at their Jocal Pomona. , The Fifth Degree is the most bean-
tiful in the Order and the Cape May Pomona is prepared to show it at its best, thanks to its worthy Post-master Joe Camp, who presented the "Donner and Blitzen" etc. At the 68d. Anual Meeting of the National Grange, to be held in Grand Rapids, Mich. the ten days beginning November 12, New Jersey will be represented by Worthy State Master, Waiter H. Havens and wife. Their place in the Committees thus far assigned is, Brother Havens as ChairResolutions and Mileage. the first session in many years in which our State Grange is not repres: ented in the voting members. the late Past-Master Cox and Master Gaunt having at one time or another been in the highseate. . But at the biennial election this year this is likely to be qmaile good. | For this meeting Pull | for the first time since the Government took over the railroads, there | is given the old time rate of one and a third certficate rate, thus promising a return of old methods. It isnt often Agriculture is in the lead for favors, ‘but there are other evidences that the general trend is that way. paca PLs inl sessiones of the State Grange since the Annual Meeting in Atlantic in December, one in Columbus and *he other in Flemington and both for deferring the Sixth or State Degree and with local Pomonas having clarses for the Fifth and making "occasion" by combining the two. The reason for this is the number of young and busy women in subordinate Granges in the western part of the State who canmot offord the time and money for the two days and night in Atlantic City to take the State Degree, and the State Degree team thus goes to them. Cape May County was repres-
ented in the Degree team . by Mrs. Stunford Vanaman, Cores of the State | Grange cee | Bolg bamrrmprectreptmenant BEAN The: season . is now | approfching when beans will be stored for the { winter. . In order to get ahead of the jbean weavil one must take some pre{caution at this time. Place the beans [io a tight receptacle which can be {tightly covered. . By placing a saucer {or carbon bisulphide on the beans and covering tightly it will be found that the fumes in a few days have so permeated all parts of the receptacle containing the beans that all weavile will be dead, Use about an ounce per cubit foot of space and beware of matches as this gas is very inflamable. No harm will come to the beans if they are wanted for planting next year. This treatment has this advantage over the heating method of killing the insect. INOCULATING HOGS Dr. Green of the State Department of Agriculture has responded to a call for help to inoculate hogs in South Seavilie, and Clermont section. Mr. Jeasé S. Collins of South Seeville has been active in securing a list of owners wanting . their hogs treated. s COUNTY FAIR — The posters are out for the County Fair, and all committeees are getting on the job. Seema as though we ©2D remember his decluring that "politics is Lous ed," and then the eve of the election of 1918 anking for an election of a Democratic Congress to support him in the war and negotiations of peace, though he had received better support from — Republicans . than | from the Democrates. Mr. Wilson will find that his double dealing has cost him the confidence of the country. ___s+#ANOTHER VOTE FOR WILSON "Red" Brandon, "concientions | objector," instrigator of revolt and me: dition at Camp Funston, reviler of the government, sentenced to death by court-martial , sentence commuted by President Wilson, has been reloased from prison, and fitted out with a new sult of clothes and a ticket to his home town, thanks to Hewt Baker and Woodrow Wilson.
