A mixed audience of ladies and men listened to the lucid explanation of the League of Nations by Judge John W. We.-tcott, Dr. William Jonah, nominee for Congress, second district of New Jersey, and Major J. D. Runk supported the League forcefully and plainly. Miss Frances Baker, nominee for the General Assembly, received an ovation' as being the first woman to receive a nomination for the office. Her modest, unassuming manner and plain language impressed the audience as genuinely ladylike and womanly. A feeling of confidence toward her pervaded the audience. This meeting can only be characterized as a most unusual one in the annals of "the unterrified." The seriousness of the situation was apparently fdt by all present. Mudslinging and coarse language were remarkable in their abence, and it was acknowledged to be the proper tiling and most admirable. Ex-assembly-man William Porter presided. fQfi RESULTS HWIK1K

It 1 would indeed be a serious I06S to the community and there should be ; enough cars in Cape May that are not < 1 working overtime. With this thought in mind I will , only be too gtod to offer my car or drive same. While 1 am not a philanthropist, I merely offer my services in the hopes that others will follow 1 in line and that we will soon read in 1 the Star and Wave that the State 1 Nurse has been retained. 1 Very truly yours, 4 1 Karl A. ELBRIDGE G. DOUGHTY HONORED Elbridge G. Doughty, who was long in the employe of the Pennsylvania and is now on the retired list, one of the organizers of the P. R. R. Y. M. C. A. and has continued an frtive member until the present, a period of twenty-five years. In consideration of this long term af service i and membership, the organization at 1 the twenty-fifth anniversary meeting in Trenton, presented to him a handsome gold medal on which was in- ■ , scribed "Presented to E. G. Doughty | by the P. R- R. Y. M. C. A., in honor I of twenty-five years continuous mem- ; bersbip to October 1st, 1920, at the 1 Anniversary, in Trenton. I He becomes also a member of the Century Club, composed of Y. M. C. A. members of twenty-five or more yearn of membership. Mr. Doughty is one of five of the original organizers still in the land of the living. WHY NOT NOW 7 Democratic nominee Franklin D. Roosevelt promises that if the Democrats wm tills Election they will begin "immediate action" to reduce the eost 1 of firing. That was what they promised eight years ago in the campaign of 1912. They have been in • power ever since. They are in power ' now. If there is any "immediate 1 action" possible, other than wWdi the : party has already taken, there is no need to wait until after election. But the efforts of the Democratic administration have been in the direction of higher rather than lower costs of living. By waste of paUic fends, the , Dnmaei-ic We-* mads higher taxes ( 1 notes as vy, thus adding to the oast of Jam or Press.
