ANOTHER SUP FOR CAPE MAY AS SOON AS WE PUT IN OUR REQUEST COUNTY - DISCONTINUES PRACTICE OF PAYING LIGHT BILLS ON MUNICIPAL ROAD SIGN& It has been the custom in Cape May County for the county to pay the electric light bills charged against municipal road signs throughout its territory, - This custom is of long standing, has been firmly intrenched, and prevailed up until the time when this city, for the first time, put in a request for county, light for the mag- j nificent road sign erected by the Progressive Leagued Right then thecustom stopped. The old spirit of|. - "Don't give Cape, May anything" has , again been manifested. Or was it , the "last straw that broke the Cam- ■ el's back?" The county's aversion to giving Igape May her /air. share has been so J

; marked in the put, that Asst. Attorney General New-corn alluded to it in the recent Graft Trials at Cape May ' Court House. He spoke of local pressure brought to bear an representative freeholders which was so t strong as to force them to make-nil - efforts to secure county roads for ; Cape May and locality, which was fi- , nallv done after other sections had i secured appropriations and built their roads. • •y/. >'■ Its probably a good move on the r ' county's part at- that. It is .rather L difficult to see why the county should ; pay electric light bills for this place : or that place or this or%he other ow ganizatlon. But it is also difficult to i' understand why this practice was i stopped just when Cape May came . along. J And now the city has to bear ttje^ ..'expense of lighting our sign on the r Shore Road. But there, is this con so - ijlation. The money is mighty well t spent. - ' I Miss Elsie Spencer, of Philadelphia, ' is gpendinjt sometime with friends in ' i Cape May;

FISHING NEWS OF THE WEEK 1 REPORTS AND- ITEMS OF INTEREST TO THE HOOK AND LINE, SPORTSMEN IN THE WILD1 WOODS AND COUNTY. r ' . George N. Snell, of 315 East 22nd B Street, seven teen-yea nold sportsman, r has the honor of landing the first J black drum of the season. George is p a member of the North Wildwood Fishing Club and it was from the 9 club pier that he ' hooked* the forty s (40) pound black drum which he B succeeded in landing. This is the second^ drum of the season, the. first g being Vthat caught about two weeks E ago by John Campbell off the same pier. Mr. Campbell's catch was a ' red drum which weighed fifty-five (55) pounds. One of the most popular crabbing grounds this season is at the point j where Richardson's channel touches tl|e Rio ' Grande road. - Thefe is a , plank bulkhead at this point which forms an excellent platform from which the ladies and children can ! safely angle With stale meat or fish I head 'for the delectable crabs. Another favorite spot is at the - • Richardson's channel bridge where j the anglers can fish for crabs either j from the bridge or from the edge, of j the channel where the gravel has ; formed' a. hard bank /free from mud j and clean as tha beach- As many as [ seven, cars have, been counted standing at this point at one time while i their (K^upants in old 'comfortable clotliii^ wiled away the timg at the \ popular sport. - From Cajfb May Point comes the ] report that both black ran3*' red drum ; aywfiiting freely. The most success- 1 frul anglers are thsse who cast from ] 1 t^ie shore at the point where the Cape ' May to Cape May Point road reaches - !the bay shore and between that point 1 and the jetties toward the Light House. 1 Weak fish have been biting at fhij? ! same spot all the past week. ] The favorite tackle of the sportsmen "in the know" « a greenhart rod with tjie casting hanaie and grips and a free spool reel. Some prefer < the split bamboo; rod of the same i style but 'these need mote oare^han 1 either the greenhart or other wooden 1 rods. Some of the old timers who ; go after the drum or channel bass 1 disdain "newfangled" rod 'and . reels i and stick to a stout treated hand line j ! which they toil in a truck basket 1 and expertly cast fife "bait by whirl- 1 .' ing the business end of the line ' about their headsfor a fejv turns and ( send shooting farlnto the surf. During. the evenings there arc usually as many spectators interestedly * watching the fishermen as there arc sportsmen enjoying themselves.
