BRYANT WARNS ■ ALL EMPLOYERS COMMISSIONER OF LABOR NOTIFIES MANUFACTURERS AND .RETAILERS OF LAWS REGULATING THE EMPLOYMENT OF ° WOMEN AND CHILDREN. '' The presort law regulating the employment °f women in manufacturing and mercantile establishments, bakeries, laundries and restaurants, provides that their work hours may be v not more than ten hours in any one 4 day, and six days, of fifty-four hours 4 in any one week; this does not pro- - hib'it Sunday emplojrment, provided 4 some other day is given the employe 7 therefor, .and that the daily total is 8 not more than ten, and that the week 8 consists of six consecutive days ,with 7 a total of not more than fifty-four $ hours. 2 The vacation period always brings 4 a great many children seeking -em- ® ployment, and employers ate advised " that fourteen years is the minimum " age for such employment, and that 5 this applies to all the places over ^ whi^h the Department of Labor has ' jurisdiction, which includes .mercantile establishments. There is no difference in the requirements of the law during the vacation period. Peire alty for violation is $50 for each ofr fense. - ■. Children betweeq^fourteeo andsftcy teen years of age may be employed, r provided they file with the employer at the time of beginning work an age s and schooling certificate. These cerr tificates are issued py an official desf ignated by the local board of «ducai. tion in each school district. !, The work hours- of children be- - tween fourteen and sixteen years are y limited to eight in a day, forty-eight - in a week, may not be between sevj en o'clock in the evening and s iven o'clock in the morning, nor at any ,, time on Sunday. Register must be i. kept of all tjuch children, setting l forth then ames, places of residence and time of employment. IMPORTANT. The employment of a child contrary to the provisions of r the State law Will make inoperative s any compensation insurance which i, may be carried by the employer. This is a- matter of the greatest "oncern i to those employing children. 6 Fof- further information concern- • ing any of these laws, kindly corner municate with the main office -of the ; i Department of Labor, State House, I Trenton; N. J., addressing General s Lewis T. Bryant, Commissioner of e Labor of New Jersey. ' A lot of "us. ask the price before we know the value.

ORPHAN SHEETS i ARE NOT WANTED ' CITIES A»ND BOROUGHS ABB PLANNING TO AVERT DISAS- , TER OF RECEIVING ' THE STREETS NOT YET COMPLETED AND WHICH THEY HAVE LITTLE OR NO MEANS OF PUTTING INTO PASSABLE CONDI1 TION. » 5 Wildwood, July 14, 1921 s Since the Freeholders in- imatwt . they are to turn certain streets bach j to the municipalities from which they , were taken originally by tjie painty 3 there has been consternation in a t number of places in Cape May coun- . *• r Around Otten's Harbors the taxpayers are very much excited over s the .situation. First, say they, the - county was anxious to get hold of the 1 boulevard. Then they tear it up and i pile a bank of sand dowh the middle t of the street so that it ceases to be a r highway and its usefulness to anyone i is questionable. As an axle breaker - and auto spring destroyer its a wonder. Than an injunction appears and ; all work ceased. Since that time •s nothing has been done excepting by • those who heeded sand for concrete work, and, it is said, some contrac- ■ tors have made good use of it. ' Now, say the taxpayers, why ' should we have to take this Orphan : street -back and foot the big bill of putting it into shape. And so a petition is being circulated' for signers and on July 18th the big delegation most invested will , appear at the meeting of the Free-' ! holders and present their case. William Harry Bright will be set cured as spokesman if certain lead- , ers in the movement can get his con- , sent. North Wildwood Henry H. Ottens and other influen- . tial citizens of North Wildwood are very much concerned over the stats- i | ment of the Cape May County Free- | holders that tliere is a possibility of the streets oeing returned tc* the borough. Central avenue with . its ooment garden plots and the lights thru the center, say these gentle .men, will if turned back to the Bor'ough at the present time virtually J bankrupt the municipality and every , effort will be put forth to prevent the return of this particular street. Ji Fithiam Tatem, solicitor of North Wildwood is expected to appear bei fore the ^Freeholders at their next meeting on July 18th.
