These are marks lor EPtfGR' T; Same pupils get poor * grades because they lack effort, while .Others get. good grades with little or no effort- The object of. these marks is to -get the 'best effort from each student, as best work demands best effort. The marking "is by letter: E, excellent — G, good; F, fair; P, poor. These marks are made up by averaging the marks for effort given by all the teachers of each pupil." , .Everyone was cautioui - of saying "ain't," "it was me,"' etc-, last week. , It was Good English Week and only C GOOD ENGLISH was tolerated. Bad English was punishable by tagging, that is, the person transgressing the language was obliged to wear ,in full view a tag which contained transgression and its corrected -form- Our language should not be mutilatedSuch expressions as "I done," "1 ain't," "he don't," should be positively eradicated from the speech of every individual- This was the aim of Good English Week, and this enu was gttairied, for now every pupil is cautious of his speech. Boys' basketball has reached a very high point of ipteresfc There are up • to the present, twenty-two candidates each doing his very best -to make the team, for which* ten will be selected. V Their practice is regular and consistent They are making excellent progress under 'the coaching of Mr. Rhodes. Mgr. Foster El dredge is using every means within his power to prepare an appropriate schedule, which will be published as soon as fully authenticated. We must not xforaot the girls. They, too, are preparing for their usual run of -games, and doing so with a great deal of interest. They are being coached by Miss Genung, whose very interest in them is a sure, sign of a successful seasonA schedule is being prepared by Manager Jean Douglass, who is also . As usual, the residents of Cape jilay arc expecting to hear music "rihe above -the -silence of the dawn on Christmas morn. This music will be rendered by the .High School Christmas carolers, w^io will march ftom street to street, reminding the peo- • pie that Christmas morn has arrived. SAn Audubon .Society was organized by Miss Sara N. Marcy, instructor of the Sciences. Every "member is expected to make a study of the , birds common to our vicinity during ■ the various seasons of the year- The president is to give at least one bird lecture * a month. .Membership is , confined to-the Freshman and SowWomore Science classes.
