WORK. FAITH, COOPERATION 'Wjere seems to be a new something in the air and about Cape May, and that is Enthusiasm about the prospects of the year 1922Whereever a few business men gather together the spirit becomes evident within a few minutes anil there is a "pitching in" to boost, to work for Gap<- May. Work. Faith and Cooperation For Success To sit down on a gloriously hot and sunshiny day and write a "Hot weather" editorial is, perhaps, less ardious than trying to read one; when like "-Huckleberry Finn" your're wishing for a cool, shady pool and a slender fishing pole. Either the writing or the reading "are but a matter of pitching in. Indeed, whatever the season, the weather, the time -or what pot, Work is but pitching in!. This matter of pitching in is a direct result of the enthusiasm we have for the work in hand. Without enthusisasm no man can accomplish j Anything worth while, whatever his . opportunities. The man who brings , enthusisasm to his every day work ! has.no need to fear failure- Knthus- 1 iasm will hold him to his task's thru J thick and thin. He will not falter at obstacles, because his enthusiasm will carry him- over them- He ' will j • not shirk .at exertion because his ■ enthusisasm will lead him to make , up any deficiencies- He will not fail, for his enthusiasm will hide any possibility of failure, and show him only the way to suceed- Whatever the season, the weather, the time, or what not. enthusiasm makes us pitch j And pitching in is work If the present enthusiasm of the. citizens of Cape May continues, the pitching in, the work cannot help but, , make this the greatest year in our history, and that will be an immense" and last- . . ing reward to everyone concerned. Let us foster Enthusasm. Continue 'to Pitch In — and -Labor. "Labor is the devine law of our ex- j istence; repose is desertion and suicide." — Mazzini.. "Th,cre is a man deng his duty*** who has the blessed glow of labor in' . * him " — Carlyle. "Seest thou a man diligent in his j business, he shall stand before kings." .Faith and Perseverence "Do not lose faith in humpnity; | there are over ninety million people j jn America who never played you a single hasty "trick," — Elbert Hubbard- ; Enthusiasm for our resort will., carry us into belief, into faith that must with the aid of perseverence bring about all that we wish for this wonderful resort of oursWe are indebted to Arthur Fisher ; in the Personality Magazine, for the 4 ' following: — I Believe That today is the best day since yesterday and that tomorrow will be ! better- I believe in life, laughter and j love- I believe that there is joy in': life if ye will but live. 1 believe that . what we love we own — love life that ye may live! I believe that environment, which is adamant before weakness is fluid before strength, purpose and work, ! I believe that there is no more pre- j cious treasure than today, nor higher heritage for the future, than a friend. I believe that on the whole, the world isn't so bad — and is growing better.; •I believe that nothing worth while is wasted— that everything was, is and [ will be. I believe that to be good is well, to do good is better, to "Make j Good" is best- I believe 'that we ; are helped in attaining our ideals by knowing 'that our friends believe in. us and expect great tilings of us. I believe that laughter me&ns red blood and long life, I believe in the divinity | of All, as the divinity of the One I believe in the Hearty Handshake, In ' Hospitality, Friendship and Love Work, Faith and Cooperation What wonderful things can be ac- ; comjfctshed for Cape May when Faith ' Belief and Perseverence are combined . with work ' Perseverence is both a law of na- ' ture and of man- By it, that which ; seems imposible becoms an aceom-* lj

" plished fact- Like faith (the one cannot exist" without the other) it can fr accomplish wonders- Many of the ill problems confronting Cape May U 3. day seem almost insu. mountabl when viewed as a whole But i n analyzed, separated into their cow ponent parts aud each treated a s ,1 separate problem, perseverance wil « solve them. A lope is made of many strands unbreakable when woven togethei but separate, easily parted. It is no so much the fury of the storm-Jiuriei '' waves that wears the rock-bourn coast, as it is the never-ending wasl oi"the ceaseless tidesn That' is what real persevorena e means — willingness to jidvance slow a ly, step by step, coiflented,- not wast ~ ing time in vain fretting at the slowr ness of the progress. e And Co-operation T "If you don't believe co-operation is necessary see. what happens to a a wagon when a wheel conies off." e Individual efforts may paint mas1 j terpieces, i>lan wonder structures, inI i vent" labor saving machinery or what not. Individual efforts can plan and " j executive, but hardly on the grandest { j scale- " ! The great achievements of history I I may have had their beginnings in in- ' j dividual efforts but the final doing of 1 j really great things mo -A depend upor ' j co-operation for execution. " j The designing of the ' soon-to-be E )Philade!pliia-Camden bridge maj 1 - have been by individual effort but the l" j erection of that structure must de1 pend upon co-operation of many r I kinds and from many sources- Xc 'j individual could make the fabric that ' goes into the building. The millions | of dollars needed must come from the : ro operation of the states and state#-men-^The actual work must be done " by thousands of artisans co-operating 5 and turning the picture into actua. • concrete structures. ' The building of a city must needs ^ be accomplished by the" co-operation - of its people. Step by step each new ■ object roust "be achieved and as soon ' as the goal is- attained tlie attention ; must be fixed upon the next feature ( that is needed. Money, thought. I time ' and labor must co -operate to 1 - bring about that which makes for a [bigger, .better and vvortli-while city, ij Business rivals have no rivalry twhfin 'co-operation is needed to. con- . struct a better business fabric in tha ''city, for better business conditions Min general make better busine.-s for | individuals. I ] Co-operation is but team work. . Hook two equally powerful engines 1 , j together and start them in opposite . ' directions- Each may pull every' . ounce. that their builders intended. -.Their individual efforts are not lack- . 1 ing, but they won't go far- Head I them in the same direction, hook them together and then give them ■ twice the load that one can move, : , I give them the power and see what ; I happens- That's co-operation. No football, base ball or basket ball ; ! team could hope to win if each play- ■ i er played individually- But put the ; players into a team with each man ; i ' doing his best individually, but cof: operating with his fellows and the , thing is done- - j Work, individual effort, faith in : r ' ourselves and others, and team work; ■ . j and perseverence cannot helft but win I whether it be building bridges, our - .
