"DEACON YlUBBS" A SUCCESS - "Eft at the High School by' the Cold Spring Grange on Tuesday, April ill, caused much favorable comment. It certainly was admirably acted and the players, deserve much credit for their splendid showing. The play embodied almost every emotion from heart throbs to riotous ' mirth. Much of the comedy was fori, nished by Deacon Dubbs (Charles Samlgraa), whose acting was very commendable- Deuteronomy Jones (Francis Douglass), made a fine impersonation ' of the bashful country lad, who could not withstand Yenme Yensen's desire to "buy" him at the auction. Irene -MaePherson played this part splendidly and provided much laughter for the audienceLudwick, embodying the spirit of witty mischief gave a very fine performance of the part of Trixie CoVeman. Margaret Griffith displayed her usual talent in executing the parb, of .Rose Raleigh, an unfor-( tunate little school ma'am who braved many tribulations, and whose happiness was ruined by^ Rawdon Crowley (Douglass Wilson), her huriiand. She found comfort in the courtship of Amos Coleman (Walter Taylor), who finally made her his life mateIt was especially comical how Miss Philipena Popover finally wins the heart of her old lover, Deacon Dubbs, from Sorghum Center, State of Virginny. This' part was exceptionally well cast by Martha Teal, who carried it out with success- As a whole the play embodied a tasteful showing of resourceful talent. | A solo was splendidly rendered by , Miss Jean Walters, of whose musical . | .alent many of our townspeople are aware- Credit is due Miss Walters las she is always prompt and "willing to help make entertainments a sucIcess. The High School Orchestra played •many pleasing selections between the performances and commanded con- s -Iderable applause. It's splendid rendering of these selections stirred much praise from the auditors, and for this we are greatly indebted to Miss Louise Ball, for it was due to her efforts that we have such a talented musical body in our High School. Our well known entertainers, the Quidort brothers, kept things very lively between the acts- Mr. Ronald Quidort sang a few poplar hits and his brother Joseph rendered a splendid saxophone soloThe proceeds of the play are to be divided equally between the Cold Spring Grange and the Senior Class of Cape May High School. The ] Grange very- considerately volunteered ; to offer this assistance to help the Seniors get to Washington. Wrecked Motorist (phoning)— "Send assistance at once. I've turned turtle-" Voice (from the other end) — "My dear sir, this is a oarage. What you want is an aouarium. A mile a minute is good speed, but a .-mile a minute gets more action.
