At a recent meeting at scout "headquarters of the Cape May Scout Comal, the annual reorganization of the Boy Scout Troop 2, of this city was begun and will be concluded at a subsequent meeting. The meeting of the < Scout Council occurred first, the most important business transacted being the election of Mt. Erickson, principal of the Cape May High School to be Scout Master to succeed Albert Smith, whose work this winter would not permit him time to continue as f scoot master, which position he has j occupied for three years. At the ad- ( joumment of the council's meeting, ( Mr-, Erickson qasumed charge of the , .troop and was received with vigorous , applause by the boys, who evidently j think his choice as their scout master ( a very satisfactory one. He at once , stated his views upon the subject of j scouting and outlined some plans for ( continuing the woric. , Other troops will be reorganize 1 as the necessity arises. Cape May was i one of the first places in this county , to organize boy scouts and has main- , txined the organization continuously ( for over ten years- <""" SHOE REPAIRING S , L. H. WON FIRST FOOTBALL GAME; CAPE MAY HIGH BEATS MIDDLE ' HIGH IN FIRST GAME IN HIS- . TORY OF THE SCHOOL— COACH , FITE HAS DONE WONDERS WITH GREEN MATERIAL. | The inauguration of football as a , sport in Cape May High School was auspicious. The team developed by Coach ^Fite from an inexperi- ] enoed group of players showed its , to perfection last Saturday on the Columbia Park Grounds when it beat the weH seasoned and tricky _ Court House team. Cape May has 1 not seen a football game in years and , it brought a tingle of giee and a lot of pep to the 400 or more fans who witnessed the contest. Court House won the toss and es- ; sayed to receive the ball. Down after down was tried but the bail was onlyadvanced a few yards only to be lost the Cape May boys- They tried to 'advance the ball but were unsuccess- , ful in scoring during the first half. Then as out of a clear sky the next kick off resulted in the prettiest play of the day. Ed Aahburn received the ball and with perfect interference ran the length erf the field for a touchdown. Captain Lynne was equal to the occasion when on the try for goal he sent bv drop kick the pigskin midway between the bar- Three minutes later the ball was within reach of the goal when Cape May again pulled the unexpected. With the ball on the 25 yard line, Cherry lay back of Lynne so as to be on sides and when Lynne booted a drop kick over the goal Cherry advanced and snatched the ball beyond the goal line. Court House was surprised at this as they , thought a drop kick meant only three I points but the goal as played by our boys netted 7 points, a touchdown and goal. Score then 14 to 0. It was | then that the inexperience of Cape , May boys began to show up. On sev- 1 eral occasions a Court House end stole away from the point of scrimmage and pulled down a forward pass much to the surprise of the Cape May | boys- After a time they woke un and stopped the wily one in his tricks. But before this was done the boys from 'had scored twice but failed each time to produce the extra point after touchdown. AU the Cape May boys are to be congratulated on this their first attempt at football. They have the pluck, the spirit, and the will and lack only experience- When Ed Ashburn learns to hit the Hne with head down, nothing in this county can ^op him. The back who smashes the line in good fashion and who was a consistent -miner was Chambers. He hits the line low and hard and next to Captain Lynne is the fastest man on the 1
