DRY WEATHER < AFFECTS DADS i varied luck reported "by * gunners from various sec- j tionsof the county-rab-bits plentiful — scarce ac- ? cording to locality. Are rabbits scarce thus year or plen- i tiful. The answer is yes and no ac- t cording to where the questioned hunt- s er spent the first few days of the f open season for rabbit, squirrel and ! other upland game 1 Those who devoted their efforts along the sand dunes of Bay Shore «] had little luck because of the extreme < dryness. The dogs tire quickly and have little stamina on dry' territory. From the ooen fields and the swampy lands the reports are better and sev- < cral good bags were reported- , George Rea and party of West < Cane May shooting over the central . section of the county on the first day had exceptionally good luck and bagged 15 rabbits beside a number of|( woodcock and auail. Another party ^

from the same district bagged 29 rob- j bits. » I Several huntere report the loss of a ' or two several of which were brought to this locality from Maryland and Delaware for the season. Some were gun shy while others amply were lost on totally strange j territory. Good dogs were selling from 35 to 60 dollars just before the season came In and some few were bo— ht at $25- The scarcity of heralds is attributed to the fact that rabbits were expected to be scarce and the g numerous districts closed to hunters t by the owners is another factor. Pmk r signs, white signs and vellow signs j, stare at the sportsmen wherever they c so that there was much gun- y ning far afield this fall. ! j I
