Home Gardening Plans Started

Plans for *plot and gardening are being formed bi Cape May, it was learned this week with the announcement that Adjutant Theodore F. Thompson, director of the local U.S.O. Club, has agreed to assist in the organization of cooperative groups to promote home gardening. Experience in the first World War and in the depression period following 1929 emphasizes the need for early preparation if movements for self-subsistence through plot and domestic gardening are to bring about satisfactory results. A register has been opened at the U.S.O. Club and those who are interested in providing for food supplies in the event of scarcity and high prices due to the war are urged to visit the club and leave their names and

addresses.

"Modern conditions of warfare make a close connection between the civilian population and the armed forces absolutely necessary and all are entitled to register who feel that they will be able In any wav to assist in the provision of foodstuffs for their own support and for the suport of the men behind the men behind the guns," it was explained. The grouos will be organized a cooperative basis and the objective will be to have small, easily handled units to be assisted by a central organization. Green Creek Women Studying Foods A group of Green Creek women doing Red Cross work met at the home of Mrs. Sara El dredge last week for the first of a series of defense food classes. At the first class the women studied about complete and incomplete proteins and the nutritive value to the body of each kind of food under these groups. The class became so interested in this study that it was decided to have another meeting on the subject of calcium and phosphorus at the same place on February 19. Those attending were Mrs. Jane Schellinger, Mrs. Olga Larcombe, Mrs. Beatrice Conover, Mrs. Gladys Schellinger, Mrs. Hattie S. Boice Mrs. Beatrice Barnett, Mrs. Emma Craven and Mrs. Sara Eldredge.
