Many To Attend Army And Navy Ball Saturday (Continued from Pnge One) order a grand march to start the dance. An entertainment program which will be presented during the intermission is being arranged by the committee. .It is planned to have three entertainers who have performed at Fort Di* * and vocal selections by Private Paul Engeneri as part of the program. Nearly 1,000 persons are expected to attend the ball, which promises to be one of the outstanding Memorial Day weekend events along the Jersey coast. All official USO Club hostesses will be at the ball to introduce atrangers to men in the various branches of the armed forces, and dub chaperones will be in attendance to act as chaperones. American Legionnaires and Boy Scouts will assist in taking tickets and distributing programs at the entrance to Convention Hall. The Army and Navy Ball proceeds will go to the local USO fund, which is being raised as part of a nationwide drive that will continue until July 4. Cape Mays’ quota has been set ht $1,200, and is to be raised in Cape May, West Cape May and Cape May Point. Lear said it is hoped that sufficient money can be raised at the ball Saturday night to eliminate the necessity for a house-to-house canvass for funds. Lear and Mrs. Steven Callaway have been named co-chairmen of the Cape May USO fund campaign. _ Anyone desiring to contribute to the USO fund should send checks to Ensign M. R. Brownell, treasurer, at the Cape May USO Club. A survey of USO expenditures revealed that complete costs of providing service clubs, entertainment, refreshments, etc. for men in service amounts to approximately eight dollars per man per year. Of this amount, less than three per cent goes for administrative costs.

Hunt Gives Flowers To Club Members Nearly two thousand chrysanthemums were given to 90 4-H Club members in Cape May County last week by W. C. Hunt, of Clermont, to help with the beautification of homes of club members in this county. Each member of the 12 clubs in the county was given approximately 20 plants and a short bulletin on the preparation of soil and care of chrysanthemums so he will obtain best results. The club members will report on the ; condition of their plants to the extension service next November.

OFFICIALS WILL DISCUSS RESORT AREA PROBLEMS (Continued from Page One) on conditions of beaches and the likelihood of assault from the aea, Holmes said: "There’s no need for spending thousands of dollars of state money to publicize the shore and offset these rumors when another state board is going to drive people away." Holmes added that during Sundays simulated aid raid and invasion practice in the Monmouth County seashore area, thousands of motorists were kept standing in line for “three hours and not allowed to get to the shore or to get away from it.” "Why did they have to pick Sunday for the test?” Holmes demanded. “That’s the seashore’s best day for business.” He said he had asked State Civil Defense Chief Leonard Dreyfuss whether it would not be possible to forestall, as far as the state was concerned, any further air alerts along the shore until after Labor Day. “At any rate,’’ he said, “they should not be held on Saturday, Sunday or Monday. If they must be held, they should be during the week.” Holmes said he had asked Dreyfuss to promulgate a set of uniform rules for coastal dimout, ordered by the Army to prevent silhouetting of shipping against the glow of land lights. “There is no set regulation,” he said. “One municipality seems to be trying to outdo the other in certain sections as far as putting out the lights is concerned, while in other areas sensible dimout precautions have been taken.” Lawmakers from Cape May, Cumberland, Atlantic, Ocean, Monmouth and Middlesex Counties will attend Monday’s meeting.
