Candidates For Senate Outline Their Policies
Candidates for the Republican nomination for U. S. Senator this week issued statements outlining their stands on various present day problems and urging support of the voters of the state in the September 15 primary election. Said Gill Robb Wilson, state aviation director: "I urge development of a program for a sound postwar prosperity." Declaring that ‘‘genuine and lasting prosperity in peace time is not possible through extravagant government spending," Wilson charged that “the national administration has failed to offer a comprehensive postwar plan in which the American people could see a gleam of hope that they will escape in this generation both a back r breaking tax burden and an impaired standard of liv-
ing.”
Joseph A. Bower, candidate for the Republican nomination for U. S. Senator, said today that the administration's conduct of the war will be the No. 1 issue of the November senatorial election. The candidate asserted that “inefficiency, internal feuds and lack of coordination which have hampered the war effort for month* may have delayed victory for years.” He said the people are shocked at the administration’s tolerance of these deficiencies and art demanding immediate steps to correct them. “The present miracle of American war production has been erected by the free enterprise system and we must not permit it to be used as an argument for a regimented state after the war,” Albert W. Hawkes, former president of the U. S. Chamber of Commerce and Republican candidate for U. S. Senator, declared In a speaking tour through several counties in both the northern and southern sections of the state this week. At the same time, Dr. Lester H. Clee, Clean Government leader and former state senator from
