Lord-Alexander Mixed Doubles Tennis Winners Mrs. John W. Lord, of Germantown, Pa., and Robert Alexander, of Philadelphia and Cape May, won the mixed doubles in the Cape May tennis tournament Sunday afternoon, climaxing the tourney which has been in progress for more than a week. Mrs. Lord and Alexander 4-5, 10-8, 6-4, over Margaret Vail and Henry McCone, of Ocean

City.

The play-off was one of the most hotly contested games of the tournament, and additional spice was added to the contest by the strong wind which prevailed Sunday afternoon. A large gallery of fans witnesesd the match. In the semi-finals Friday afternoon, Mrs. Lord and Alexander defeated Block and Block, 7-5, 6-2; and Vail and McCone defeated Norfleet and Mock 6-1, 6-1. Mrs: Lord won- the women’s singles tennis tournament Saturday afternoon by conquering Mrs. Leonard Block, of Washington, D. C. 10-8, 6-3. In the singles semi-finals, Mrs. Lord beat Mrs. O. Lewis, 6-4, 6-1; and Mrs. Block won from Betty Brown, 6-4, 6-4. In the women's doubles played Sunday morning Margaret Svit and Margaret Vail, of Ocean City, defeated Mrs. Block and Mrs. Lord, 6-4, 6-1, after they had overcome Brown and Brown 6-1, 6-2; and Mrs. Block and Mrs. Lord had defeated Lewis and M. Skinner 6-1, 4-6, 7-5. Ensign Harry J. Wald, of Pittsburgh, and McCook Reed, o' Bryn Mawr; won the men’ doubles Sunday morning, after having defeated Bob Alexander and Bucky Block 6-3, 6-2. In the semi-finals Alexander and Block won from Warner and Howard 6-3, 6-3; and Wald and Reed ’won from Owen and Mock 6-1, 6-3. Wald and Reed played the en’s singles yesterday afternoon, but until press time the game had not been completed. The tournament at the city courts adjoining the Cape May Golf. Club has been one of the most successful ever held here with a large field of entries and a large gallery of spectators at every match. Prizes were presented to ners, and tennis insignias presented to members of the mittee which is in charge of this year’s tournament. 'Committee members are Mrs. Lord, Charlie Kerr, Alexander, A. S. Walker and Miss Margaret Skinner. The tennis committee presented William Moore with an honorary membership for his faithful service and presented his son with a gift for his service at the courts during the season.

VJ-5 Teams Wins In Soft Ball Tilt The VJ-5 softball team defeated the Naval Air squad by a score of 6-2 in a recent tilt as part of the Cape May Recreation Commission’s softball league. A number of games have been cancelled or postponed because of eather conditions or movements of some of the military units which had teams entered in the league competition. The Coast Artillery team from Cape May Point remains in the leading position, having won seven, games and lost two.
