Duck Hunting Season Opens Opening today, New Jersey’s waterfowl season, which will continue until December 23, brought large numbers of local sportsmen to their favorite gunning grounds at the crack of dawn. Duck hunters are required to carry Coast Guard identification cards in all tidal waters under the jurisdiction of the Coast Guard. Captain Eugene A. Coffin, district Coast Guard commandant, of the Fourth Naval district, has announced that hunters will net be permitted to leave docks before sunrise jenti shall return to docks before sundown. Hunting is allowed by the 1942 federal migratory waterfowl regulations from a sunrise ,to sunset. In keeping with Army regulations, Captain Coffin declared the -use of, or carrying of, any camera, binocular, field glass, or signalling device will not be permitted. The State Fish and Game. Com-^ mission this week announced that all boats used for actual gunning purposes must be propelled by oars or paddles only. However, duck hunters may use outboard motor boats to reach their gunning points. The state commission emphasized that there is no open season this year on Snow Goose, Ross’ Goose, Swan, Wilson Snipe or Jacksnipe. The season is open for the taking of other geese, Brant, ducks, coot (Crow Duck). Regulations provide .that it will be unlawful to use food of any kind for bait, or to shoot over baited water or land; to use live decoys; to’ use any gun except ahotgun not larger than 10 gauge and holding not more than two shells. The daily bag limit for ducks Is 10 in the aggregate of all. kinds, but not more than one wood duck or more than three singly or in the aggregate of redheads and hufflc-heads. Possession limit is two days’ bag (except wood duck, only one allowed at any time), Canada Geese and Brant (except snOw goose, Ross’ goose) one of each or two of either kind.
