nt Rationing Explained By Miss Hamilton
Volunteers At Spotter Post Serve Total Of 5,312 Hours
"That comes to $1-15 ® ve points” or "Sixty-nine cenU and eight points, please" will soon be C familiar comments to every grocery store customer, and every homemaker in tne land will hf as eager to get the most for the points in her ration book as she , is to get the most for the dol- ^ lars in her pocketbook, said Lois G Hamilton, county home demonstration agent, this week ai she explained the point ration system which will soon become
L effective.
^ “According to OPA. every person in the United States will shortly be issued a point ration ' book,” Miss Hamilton explained. “This will not take the place of the sugar ration book, or Kation Book No. 1, with which sugar and coffee are rationed. “Ration Book No. 2 will contain four pages of blue stamps, worth 96 points, and four pages of red stamps, also worth a total of 96 points. Each stamp has a number and a letter. The numbersignifies the number of points the stamp is worth and the letter nifies when the stamp may used. There are 16 points under each letter in denominations of r 8, 5, 2 and 1. An announcement r , will be made at the beginning of L each period as to which ft are good during that urn “The foods coming under the | • new point rationing system inF * elude all canned and bottled I’ fruits, fruit juices and combinar tions, all canned and bottled vegct tables, vegetable juices and comK, binations, all dried and dchydratt ed fruits and all canned soups,' B Miss Hamilton explained. "Money value and point value K will have no relation to each K other. Some items may cost more [B'in dollars or cents, yet if the supply is plentiful they may have a lower point value than some cheaper items," she continued.
ERMA—A total of 5,812 hours has been contributed by volunteer airplane spotters at Army Observation Post 154-A, located at the Ernest Corson farm here, since the post was established shortly after the outbreak of the war. The volunteers' time Is m addition to an unlimited amount of time given by Mrs. Corson, chief observer, and members of her family who have served as spotters at all times when the (post was not manned by other
volunteers.
The figures were released this week, following a compilation of records of all volunteer observers assigned to the local post. One hundred and seventeen spotters are on the roster of the Erma post, working in shifts to provide a 24-hour-a-day vigil for this area. A A list of thS» *>lunteers and e number of hours they have
