Published frrery Thursday Morning. t CAPE MAT, MARCH 22. 1888- ~~ J 7W. FgKMared «l t ItrtMWATS ,, I Communicated. ' Do the board of Freeholder propose 1 to force (be erection of a new elms S house upon the people f As fsr s« we ; can learn there Isn't a Uxpsyin* voter In this vicinity that u opposed to this much C talked of project "the new alms holise.' t Now we venture the assertion "that the old alms boose Is as good, and comfortable as the average of dwelling houses i throughout the county. We saw an article in the Court House GattUt recent- r ly stating that nine-tenths of the people t were In tovor of a now coupty houau. L Now we will make another assertion 1 and we challenge its contradiction- . Could a vote be takeo at each poling place throughout the county; where c one would vote In favor of,- nine would vole aaalnsl building a new county > house. Now each freeholder should re- t spect the wishes of his constituents; If „ be knows the majority of tbe Uixpsyers « In his district sre opposed to the proposed hnllding he should vote accord- _ ingly when the qnestlon cunes up be- ■' fore the board. He should remember j that he la voting away (If affirmatively) , the peoples money and therefore lid should proceed with great caution. Pub- f lk: business should be conducted with . the same economy that s man would 1 practice In bis private affairs. We us- j demand that our county is in debt at the pre "cut time. If this be the case ( would It not be better to wait a few years and liquidate the old debt before contracting a new one. Isn't this what 5 almost any private man would do how. ( muehsoever he might need k new dwell- - lngf Undoubtedly It Is. Any sane ( man would pay olf the old score before he would run Into debt to build a new house even if his old ooe was a little j shabby. Now we would respectfully request the chosen freeholders of Cape ( May county to ascertain the wishes of [ the people in reference to this matter and If they find the majority of the tax- < paying commnnlly opposed to building . a n«w alms house, then vote down the j iideretlon. 1 Daring tho late blixrard and blockade I on the West Jersey It. II.. an Incident , occurred that is worthy of publication. 1 The train that left Camden at 6. 10 Mon- 1 day night for Heislervllle, aucceeded in ] getting as far as Vlneland all right, when It was caught in a largo drift and was I unable to go farther. The passengers. , about twenty In number, including some . ladies and children, were confronted I with the unpleasant idea that they would be compelled to stay in the cars all night wltbont anything to cat. It I was then that Mr..Parmalee, s neighbora farmer, came to the rescue with hot es, roils and cakes enough to supply I the demands of the hungry crowd. Mr. . Mr. and Mrs. Parmalec certainly deserve great credit for the manner in which they oared for the ladies and children especially. After waiting at Vineland about six houra, the engine of tho Cape May ' freight came to the rescue and tpe train , moved on, every body pleased with the kindness of the Vineland Samaritan.
