SUNDAY IN THE LOCAL CHURCHES Strong Sermons and Excellent Music Heard by Large Congregations. The churches tn Ocean City were all well tilled at the services ou .Sunday. Following are reports of some of Hie HOLY THlSlTY. Though theTrlnlty Kplscopal Church la at present without a pastor all the services 8uuday were well attended. The llev. C. Me. Howard ofllclalrd both morning and evening. Hla evening sermon was especially suggestive and edifying. Taking hla teit from ” . 6; 28, he apoke on "Lilies." Consider the lilies. He 'considered them drat aa symbolical of the purlly, beauty and uprlghloeM of Christ. He * very happy In hla description of > Illy and In carefully measured irds he clearly set forth how that rut In caUlug Himself "Tire Lily of the Valley"'’expre*aed a wonderfully lulereetlug truth, descriptive not only hrlat’a character, butaleoofllle life. He while on earth lived the lllyllke life of humility, purity and uneelQabneea. Then he showed how the Illy llluetrate* In various ways the leading characteristics of tha true CbrMlan and how we all should endeavor to liva day hy day tha llly-llke life. SAYS NICHOLS THE REV. R. A. ELW00D HAS NO CHANCE' PREACHED ON PIER
An Atlantic City Paper’s Views on the Congressional Situation. Kdltorlally, under the heading. "Nichols Won’t Da," the Atlantic Pity Review of Friday bad the following to say of the Second Congressional District Oght: If Senator Isaac T. Nichols, of Bridgeton, Is really sincere In bis desire to defeet Congressman John J. Gardner for re-election, one of the heat and sureat ways for Mr. Nichols to accomplish hla determination Is to stay outof theCongremdonal tight himself There will be no dldlculty whatever hi sending "Old Brain*” Into rellre- ; tHf* ye»r. There will be no CongressiouVl convention In the year of Lord ISIS, but rather the Congressional nominee, thenks to ^lie Geren lew, will beve to gather In hla nomination at the hands of the people themselves at a direct primary. Thla of Itself assures Gardner e slay ou Rhode Island avenue or Kgg Harbor, id not at Washington. At least there Is that positive assurice If Nichols keeps outof Ihe Congressloual light. Senator Lewis, of Burlington, Is also tu go after the Congressional nomination. He can be a ug competitor of Gardner's. Nlchan not, Nichols baa been sewed Io Tan and the "bosses" oY the e. Hla antipathy to Stokes will blin Cumberland County end he dn't get 800 votes In Knrllngton County. In Atlemlc County be couldn't muster a corporal'* guard, either. The same I* likewise true of tape May County. Oulhecontrary, Lewis would make atfqng allowing In Burlington, Cumberland end Cepe May, but he must get all of the anti Gardner vote to defeet "King John." If he and Nichoit stay In the light they will hut oil the path for Gardner to traverse to victory. Insofar aa the Review la concerned It Is against Gardner fltat, last and all the lima. It would not, however, be tor a more usaleas man to take hla place, which but means it would not support Nichols under any circumstances. The lime baa passed lu live lu the "forty; years ago" period. Men of today are needed. Nichols Is not of these.
