The City Commissioners, at their weekly meeting, accepted ou two i readings ordinances providing for thb purchase of a motor-power pumping i engine for the lire department, a i motor power sprinkling curl, u motor power truck with u (lumping body and a motor power road scraper. The cost of these shall be defrayed by the Issuing of bonds. There were alr*<> passed ou two readings an ordinance providing for the purchase of a motor- power vehicle for the director of the department of highways, the use of the health nlllcer and such other departments an may find it necessary; an ordinance to buy a motor cycle for the intllce deportment, and ail ordinance to open, jgrade aud gravel a portion of Tenth aud I Eleventh streets and to construct a I sidewalk aud lay out a |>orllou of Moorlyu terrace | Director Campbell voted • 'aye" on the ordinance to ' purchase a motor I pro) plug engine, with the uudcrslaudllng, he said, that he may later change his vote. When 11 came to voting on the ordinance providing for a motor vehicle, for the highway aud health departments Mayor Champion staled that he would like to say that he considers I such a car essential. He personally knows how dimcult It Is to get around lit) his own business. Efficiency Is I lost by not being able to cover the city I as quickly as possible. Towosend Zook, of Philadelphia, a well-known cottager, was surprised while walk-1 Ing on the beach, a few days ago, to II nd a sailor's meiw kit. It was a peculiar looking contraption, and tbel young man's father bad visions of a! bomb when he decided to open It. He found Ira the corroded metal arrangement a kuife, fork and spoon, I the top of the kit, when opened out, I serving as a small table. The kit apparently had been lu the sea for some time. W. Ward Ream, of Philadelphia, I another well-kuown visitor, found on the beach a kit containing a white, powdery-like substance and also llueo , for cleantug the Inside of a gas mask. . He also discovered oq tbe strand a . cylindrical-shaped tin, which, when n opened, was found to contain a nnmber of pieces of bard-tack. On one end of the tin were the letters, "U. 8. „ Q M.
