Editor tub Bbntinkl:— There is one reason for free music thte Hummer (hat In more Important tliau all the others put together, aud that la the early advertising of Ocean City last spring promised free music on the public pier. Thte te a distinct promtee and the city commission cannot In honor ask visitors who were promised free concerts to pay admlselon to the pier. However true or untrue It may be, the general public believes the City Commissioners have been led to charge adralsslou to the pier at the behest of the private pier and amusement men who have tried for years to , Induce the city lo do this because the i public concerts have Interfered with their receipts. , Mayor Champion, In bin address to tho Hotel Proprietors' Association, , has awked tbe members to help him out of the hole he and hla fellow commtesloners have put themnelve* In, and ha* staled that the reason for asking paid admissions to the pier waa lo make It self-sustaining. Yet with the next breath he saya the money ta to be used In Hitlogoutm recreation Held. This public music In Ocean City has been one of the resort's greatest assets aud there has never been raised a word as to the expemie except that raised by the present commissioners. There are other expenditures of public , funds lu Ocean City that the commls(doners can cut down with the approval of the public, but the muslo pier Is not one of them. The attendance at the concerts must apeak very eloquently to the commissioners as to bow the public feels. It Is not so much a question of the admission fee that the public objects to. but It I* the Idea of being gouged out of something It ha* a right to expect free, aud which It has been promised.
