SUNDAY IN THE ; LOCAL CHIMES I , Strong Sermons and Excellent Music Heard by ConCongrcgatioos. , KlKol MAITIMT. r Sunday wae a very good day at I he . First Baptist Church. All atteud1 auces were good aud the luterest and t character of services made the day well worth while. The epeclel rllort if the pastor, the Uev. M M LewL. . aud hie aeetstaut to gel the children . out to morning service and lake a - special part therein, resulted lu lb be wig present Huuday morning. This cau atlll be furreased, aud a special iulervst created. 'The Huuday school le back again to au attendance over the hundred mark Hickueos lu the past six weeks seriously hampered the work. The Huuday school hauuer is creating lively Interest among all classes, that of the young women under Mrs. Fogg capturing it last Hunday. Ou Huuday evening the pastor spoke ou (he subject of the "World's Need of a Solvent " Hie subject was based ou the thought thai, w hile the nine teeutti ceulury made the world a neighborhood, the twentieth century must make It a brotherhood, or the last slate of the world will be worse than auy previous. He thus showed how the modern inventions of the uluetreutti aud twen t let h centuries had lu reality shrunk the earth lu size, how travel and communication and new « sen Ice made the whole earth really one community. He showed how there was a community mind developing aud a common education. He asked whether the world was developing a common faith or rellglou as well. The fact that the nations of the world are being drawn closer together does not argue that I hey will get 1 along together. The closer together they come In economic and political relations the more liability there Is for < trouble, unless there Is a prevailing spirit, such as that uf Christ, euai liug ' them to live together In peace aud brotherhood. He showed that what we could do about It would be to develop a world ' cousclousueas. No man could live lo ' himself now. Whatever happened in any quarter of the globe of auy Impor 1 tsnce bad some significance for us. We must recognize that the only pracIleal aolveut Is the gospel of Jesus aud use It. Men may be uulike. but It 1- « only lo color, laugusge and custom Uudrrueatli, there la a common sin needing the salvation of the cross, and , Jesus alone can tit all needs, till every 1 heart aud light every man to elerual , life. We must recognize the ueed of , trained youth aud utTer our children ou the altar of the world's needs. The pastor said he knew of no success lu - this Jlfs for himself or his chlldreu, except as It comes 111 the full perform. , auce of his task In co-operatlug with Jesus in spreading the gospel to all parts of the world. pittsr m. s After a long and stormy winter, it was most agreeable to have such a spring-like day as laat Sunday. Gratitude was expressed by atlendauce upon church services. The Methodic Church had flne congregations both morning and evening. With the coming or the day there was Inaugurated a new choir. Sunday evening there were twenty member" present In their places, giving most excellent assistance 16 the service. Prof. Harry H. Lake Is th* director of the choir and ithe people have responded to his call must loyally. A male quartet number aud a selection by the choir were the contributions of ths siugera to the service. Each Sunday there will be something particularly acceptable to the congregation. The Rev. George W. Yard, the pastor, preached two very Interesting sermons. His morning discussion was a cootlnuauoe of last Sunday morning's. Both sermoiia were on the subject, The Great I Am." 1 11 enlarging on the subject. Mr. 1 Hard spoke of the "Great 1 Am" a* 'Master aud Ijord." as "I am He," which wan the answer Christ made to ilia tnob lad by Judas when they were seeking Christ; as the "Bread of Life;" as the "Way, Ilia Trulh and the Life;" as the "Vine;" as the "Dour;" as the •Resurrection," and as ' Alpha and Omega." Tiia evening sermon had to do with Christ from three different view points —a stumbling block, which Ha waa lo , (its Jaws; foolishness, as related to the Greeks; and the power and wisdom of God. which He was lo thosa who believed ou Htm. THE TIME is coming when it will not be an easy matter to get hotel accommodations in Ocean City during the summer season.
