Elmer Ste«i man. book-keeper for 1 both the sewer and water companies. 1 gave figures showing that the sewer company's bouse connections in 1920 1 were 2107. growing from 1916 in 1917. < By the proposed surcharge, the : company expect* to Increase its re- , celpts this year by flfcoo , 'The matter will go to conference." 1 said Judge Treacy. dismissing the case. 1 The application of the Ocean City Water Company was then beard. The company petitioned that it "be authorized to add to Its bills for water service beginning June 1. 1921. and until the further order of this com- 1 mission, an emergency surrbarge of twenty per cent upon the net bills as now rendered, excepting those large customers vrho contract in advance for more than 1.000.000 gallons annually and a surcharge of forty per cent, i upon bills for fire service, which, un-' der the present rate of charge, is reia- , lively a very small part of petitioner's ' total Income " In part the petition was as follows* "Your petitioner has been In opera , tion In the city of Ocean City since the year 1S94. and during all that time ihere has been no increase In the ' rates charged by petitioner, but on the contrary the amount of water sup plied by petitioner for the minimum • charge was voluntarily increased from 28.600 to 25.000 gallons. The rates now charged by petitioner are as fol lows: An annual minimum charge of . 110.00 for which 25.000 gallons of * it- ; er are allowed Excess water up to ' 200.00© gallons Is charged at the rale ! of thirty cents per thousand gallons In excess of 2«h».©00 gallons twenty- , five cents per thousand gallons The minimum rate is subject to a cash discount of twenty five cents, and fhe rates for excess water are subject to a rash discount of five centa per thousand gallons. "Between the summer seasons of • 1919 and 1920 there was a considerable • amount of building in Ocean City, with ► the result that the total sales of water by your petitioner. Including metered . service, unmetered service, and mu • nictpal and miscellaneous service, in creased from $39,464 2« in 1919 to 942.429.23 in 192© Owing to a present . lark of new building and the general tendency toward greater economy k there is no probability of any increase in petitioner's revenue for the current year.
