News of the City's Schools
GIVEN PRETTY BANNER. In the assembly room of the high Hchoul Thursday, SupL Stevens presented the beautiful banner to the Senior Class, whose members won 1 the Inter-class tVurk and field meet Wednesday. Supt. Stevens called Alfred Senior, the president of the daas to the platform, and, in p resen tinf the banner, said, *1 am presenting this banner to you because it is your last chance to win it." telling how they appreciated the banner, a gift from the high school. Supt. Stevens then said that in honor of the Senior Class, they would ring Number 8, "Baby Dreams," and there was applause. Locals Did Good Work. The boys and girls of the Ocean City High School did splendid work in their track and field meet with Pleasant vi lie High School at Pleatant vi tic Friday afternoon. While the local students do not pretend to I * experts in this line, they desarve credit for their fine showing again -t a team which ha* had much more experience. The Pleasant villr hoys scored 83 points, while Ocean City scored 81. Augustus Goets took first place in the shot-put. throwing the 12 pound lead 88 feet. Scott Adam*
took first place in the pole-vault, clearing the har at a height of 9 feet Ross Ferguson and George Gardiner tied for second place on the bar at 8 feet 8 inches. Adams, of 4 Ocean City, and Henry, of Pleasantville, tied In the high jump at 6 feet. Adams lost in the toss-up of the coin. The Ocean City girls won 13 points, while their opponents had 1!*. A relay team, made up of Carolina Rogers, Edna Whittington. FIlomena Braca and Mary Collins, defeated the Rleasantville High School team in the 40&-yard relay. Mi* Rogers took second place in the 60 yard dash. Miss Collins was second in the potato rase. Gold pins and ribbons were awarded as trophies. After the track and field meet, Ocean City lost the base ball gam**. 4 to 3. Adams pitched a fine game. A few costly errors caused defeat, o ATHLETIC EVENTS, The annual athletic events of the boya and girls of the local publu schools Wednesday of last week were witnessed by many of Unfriends of the young people. won the banner, having scored 12 points. The points scored by the classe s were: Senior boya, 40; senior girls, 82 Total, 72. Junior boys, 18; junior firis, 42. Total, 58. Sophomore boys, 40; sophomore girls, 18. Total, 68. Freshman boys, 7; freshman girls, 8. Total, 16. Malcolm Austin scored most of the 16 points made by the juniors. Scott Adams starred for the "sophs," winning the 76-yard dash, the 100-yard dash, pole vault, and running Ugh jump. The senior class won the relay race, with the "sophs" second and juniors third. The meet officials were: Starters — Harvey Collisson and Frank Schneider. Announcers — Ewing Corse and Theodore Stevens. Scorers — Dr. Hughes and Leroy Howe. Time-keepers— Russell H. Nulty

It is the present intention of the War Department to limit the enrollment of men

In order to provitle those men who have not had training an opportunity to join the Tbth Division, the War. Department has planned a "RKD" Citizen*' Military Training Camp 4© he held at IMattshqJif, New York, on the shoreof lake Champlain, for one month, begining August 7. This camp is open to all young men between 16 and 35 years of age. Attendance at this camp will he without cost to the participants, the Government furnishing transportation both ways, food, clothing, medical and dental attention, and such wholesome entertainment as i* needed by a large group of citicen soldiers. Application may be made at any of the following: Citizens' Military Training Camps Association, 19 West Fourty-fourth street.
