OCKAN CITY SKNTINftL, OCEAN CITY, N. J., THURSDAY, MAY 26, 1921 . ,

NEW DAWN FOR THIS CITY'S GARDEN SECTION Shops and Stores of Variety at Third Street and Hoardwalk When u class in a Duluth school was a»ko<i to describe' that city, one uf the ls»va wrote : "This wonderful town io fifty miles tunc, one mile wide and two mile* high (Duluth l» built on a hill). H hex many churchrr, many school house*, some street ear trucks, and three ends ami a middle, but our end of town ha* none." I Thia description might almost apply to Ocean City, which for length, narrowness ami one or two other things has few equals. What is commonly calle<l Ocean City could very well he divided into several little lawns, each groupe«i around the stations, which are now called after the number of streets but which could with propriety be called by an individual proper name. Perhaps the most distinct loealit) of these many parts of Ocean City is the Third and Fourth streets district. To many this neighborhood is the select locality of this narrow , . but elongated, town. Its growth has been rapid and stead) . The dwellings arc mostly of a high class, attractive in design ami artistic in ap- 1 pearanoe and Joseph M. Rowland,' Otis II. Townseml and others have, spent their best efforts here. This section, however, has labored under several disadvantages. No post office, no drug store, not even a restaurant, where a ravenous fisherman or a tired cottage rens could still a big hunger were to be found. The nearest post office was a quarter of a mile away and otehr necet- , sary conveniences for a happy existence at the ♦ shore were likewise wanted, or nearly a mile distant. But these wants have been supplied. -The Garden section" of Ocean City, as many term it, will no longer languish foi want of business places. A Philadelphia man has erected nine stores, a large restaurant and a roof garden cafe, ^worthy of that end of town. The restaurant ami roof garden will be under the management of Mr. ljtmbert, of New York, and Mr. Robinson, of Philadelphia. The furnishings will be of a high class and the sendee the best obtainable. Music will be furnished at certain hours, with concert programs on Sunday evenings. The Ocean City Book and Stationery store will carry a very large stock of books in the line of novels, history, biography, travels, etc., as well as latest musk magazines and periodicals, together with daily . papers aad a full line of stationery. An attractive reading room has been' furnished for the use of members of the Readers' Club and general customers. A very complete line of toys will be earned and there will be no need for cottagers there to go below Third street to satisfy the wants of the "Kiddies." One ef the important new stores will be the Ocean City Sampler Shop. This store will carry a unique line of art and needle work, hand-painted lamp shades and all the latest designs in hand-painted things for the up-to-date home, many of the articles being originally designed and execut- , ed by the owners of the shop. No member a f the Ocean City summer colony, interested in beautiful things can possibly afford to miss the opportunity of visiting this store. Instruction in hand-painting and art needle work will also be given free to customers. In connection with the sampler shop will be a branch postIn the row of stores at Third and Boardwalk, one will also find a candy fihop, a delicatessen stored and above all, a hair dresser and a Ashing tackle store. The hair dressing establinhwill be Conducted by Mrs. Pear! E. Krieger, of Chicago, who cornea with a wide experience and highly recommended. She will undoubtedly gain the eonffdenee and good will of Ocean City from the first. The fishing tackle store, which is si ready in operation, is conducted by Dr. 8. L. Lipschutz, who needs no introduction to the fishing public of this dty. With his efficient partner, Mr. Reerdon, he is making every effort to hare one of the most complete OQd up-to-date tackle stores, not eJy IrOtewt. City, hut on the entftva peart. His store will be s delight to the heart of every true fisherman and for e "fortune- seeker «•' the deep" in this district not to visit Dr. Upsehtitz's place at Third and Boardwalk would be worse than going to Rome without seeing the Vatican. If one is hunting for anything that will aid one In bringing the in- 1 habitants of the ocean up on dry land, go to Third and Boardwalk. It will be foond there. One wiM also he able to have one's clothes pressed In the "Garden Section" this coming season, and "baggy" trousers will be out of style around Third street. A high class tailor from Philadelphia will he In business there. ; ■ # r NEW APARTMENT Headier Ce. Has Contract from Frank Griffith The L.
