NEW DAWN FOR THIS OUT'S GAfiOEN SECTION Shops and Store* of Variet} at Third Street and Boa rd walk | When a daaa in a Duluth school was asked to describe' that city, one of the U>t m m> « . "This win i tie i ful town in fifty miles Ion*, one mile wide wmi two miles high (Duluth is built on a hill). It ha* many' churches, in Any school houses, some street cat track*, end three ends ami « middle, hut our end of town lum none." I This description might Almost apply to Ocean City, which for length, narrowness end one or two other Lhluga ha* few equals. What Jm commonly called Ocean City could very well be divided into several little towns, each grouped around the stations, which are now called after the number of street* but which could with propriety ite called by an individual proper name. Perhaps the most distinct locality of these many part* of Ocean City is the Third and Fourth streets district. To many this neighborhood is the select locality of this narrow, but elongated, town. Its growth has been rapid and steady. The dwellings are mostly of u high class, at- ' ; tractive in design and artistic in ap- , pea ranee ami Joseph M. Rowland, j Otis If. Townaend and others have i spent their best effort* here. This section, however, has labored j under several disadvantages. No i post office, no drug store, not even a 1 restaurant, where a ravenous fisher- < man or a tired cottageresa could still \ a big hunger were to be found. The nearest post office was a quar- , tor of a mile away and otohr nece- v sary conveniences for a happy exis- t tence at the shore were likewise wanted, or nearly a mile distant. But these wants have been supplied. t The Garden section" of Ocean City, | as many term it, will no longer Ian- . I
guish for want of business places. A Philadelphia man has erected nine stores, a large restaurant and a roof garden cafe, worthy of that end of town. The restaurant and roof garden will be under the management of Mr. l<ambert, of New York, and Mr. Robinson, of Philadelphia. The furnish ings will be of a high cla as and the service the best obtainable. Music will be furnished at certain hours, with concert programs on Sunday evenings. The Ocean City Book and Station ery store will carry a very large stock of books in the line of novels, history, biography, travels, etc., awell aa latest music magazines and periodicals, together with daily papers and a full line of stationery. An attractive reading room has been furnished for the use of members of the Readers' Club and general customer*. A vary complete line of toys will be carried and there will be no need for cottagers there to go below Third street to satisfy the wants of the "Kiddies." One of the important new stores will be the Ocean City Sampler Shop. This store will carry a unique line of art and needle work, hand-painter) lamp shades and all the latest designs in hand-painted things for the up-to-date home, many of the articles beinr oririnallr ■fir) MMiit. I w"! originally designed and execut-
ed by Che owners of the shop. No member of the Ocean City summer colony, interested in beautiful things ean possibly afford to miss the opportunity of visiting this store. Instruction in hand-painting and art needle work will also be given free to customers. In connection with the aampler shop will, be a branch postIn the row of stores at Third and Boardwalk, one will also And a candy *hop, a delicatessen More, and above all, a hair dresser and a Ashing tackle store. The h^ir dressing establishment will feedbndu ct*d by Mrs Peart E. Krieger, of Chicago, who cornea with a wide experience and highly recommended. She will undoubted ly gain the confidence end good will of Ocean City from the Am. The Ashing tackle store, whleh Is already in operation, ia conducted by Dr. 8. L. Lipsehutz, who needs no Introduction to the Ashing public of this dty. With his efficient partner, Mr. Reardon, he is making every effort to have one of the most complete and up-to-date tackle stores, not only In Ocean City, but on the entire eoaiL Hia store will be a delight to the heart of every true Asherman and for a "fortune- seeker of the deep" in this district not to visir Dr. IJpnchuti's place at Third and Boardwalk would be worse than going to Rome without seeing the Vatican. If one is hunting for anything that will aid one in bringing the inhabitants of the ocean up on dry land, go to Third and Boardwalk. It will he found there. One will also be able to have v*e'« clothes pressed In the "Garden Sec dan" this coming season, and "baggy" trousers will be out of style around Third street A high class tailor from Fhitadelphla will be in huaineM there.
