The developments were quite a bit in evidence on the I -each and on the streets here last summer, and much cannot he added— or taken off— this year. THE season has started at the ^ home of the Ocean City Yacht Club, and from "now until early Septemhei there will he much activity at thiV popular club house. Frank D. Newberry, chairman of the house committee, is as busy as a bee, and he has the affairs of the organisation much at heart and always in mind. FROll an inkling gathered of the tentative plans for the Fourth of July celebration here. Ocean City will have something worth while. All j business men and everyone -interested in this resort should get together anil i make the affair the success it -should J be. eclipsing even the best 'of other ; years. I CHIEF OF POLICE JOHNSON j is to be commended on his prompt action in getting in touch with Commiiuuoner Dill, of the State Motor t , Vehicle Department, in reference to L having a man sent to this city to j issue auto licenses for owners and (| drivers, and also to have drivers' demonstrations here. Commissioner* a Dill equally is to be thankfd for his j1 quick response to this request. Ocean £ City, with the Urge number of ma- a chines within Us borders during the r summer season, is entitle.! to this k courtesy and. attention from the p State officials. - ANOTHER large crowd of exeur- n J aUnists came to Ooeen City last Sun- •> J day, and two large sections were run ■ (from Philadelphia to this resort by |f ■ the Reading Railroad. As U usually ti • the ease with excursions here on Sun- w ikya ooriy in the season, the vial- t) tare for the most part comprise cot- » ttge owners who run down for the 9 day. The excursionist as he is generally known has never been much cff a frequenter to these shores. Ocean , Oty people have been divided in1 » ,k-i. ,
their opinions many years as to t*e value of the Simon-pure exeurMonist. Some claim this resort does not desire the excursionist, while <*bers proclaim that the excursionist it wanted. WITH the schools in Philadelphia aH closing this week. Ocean City's summer season will be started with a rush. This Mng almost solely a family resort, this condition has prevailed for years. There may soon . «*»• time for which many have been waiting and longing, when this rmort will have a season extending ower Ave or six months. There is ne reason why this should not be the erne. With one or two of the Urge hotels opening -early and remaining open Ute in the fall, as is understood will be the condition this year, visiters may stay until well into the aatumn months. The Ashing is al- ' ways Ane in the autumn, and many of the largest weakAsh of the season are then caught on the hanks. CITY'S INFORMATION BUREAU Tha Chamber of Commerce has reopened Ocean City's bureau of information on the second floor of the Monty A Edwards building. Eighth atraet and Central avenue, where this bweau is said to have accomplished raeeh good during the summer season of 1920 in the way of directing strangers u hotels, providing rooms for. visitors, locating cottagers for their friends, etc. Centrally located, it will be convwitaet for those just coming into tha resort, and should be of vaulable assistance to those seeking informatien that should be theirs for the . asking. If it were possible, without inter- : faring with city ordinances, their - should be a sign from one of the win- i dqjrs of the building showing the ' "■tor that the city's bureau of in- ' formation U looted on the second , floor of the bunding at Eighth street ( and Central avenue. t ■ERE WITH BRIDE j John D. 1 STATE LACKS FUNDS = 10 BUYAUTO BRIDGE Y ' _ : ing bulkheads damaged by the winter's storms a few years ago. Col. Wittmore said thai the quesb , tion that I witters the commission is , where they are going to get the luoni •' »jr for all the thing - that mu.-t be ! done to the rna>l> in New Jersey. " They must defer those things that - can lie "ieferted, unless the load tax. . j.is inriHiHMl or there is a bond issue. Mr. Massey said he wanted it dis tinctlv understand by the State Highly way Commission that the com pa in is reaily to deliver its title to the State ~ within tweiitv-fuiir hours, President Burton, of tile commi-' tiquated and the members want to 11 . see the toll removed. It is the only i- toll bridge in the State at this time, i. Tire only matter that bother* the v Ixiard i- the financial rn.L Until I* quirements in other parts of the r. State, they can't say anything, if „ they hayl the money, the member* wL the commission would free the hndge \ right away. InyAiiswer to a ipiestiun, Mr. Mas- ; isey/saiil that the road was huilt for • NtMfvy travel, and that seven tons is I. the limit of weight permitted on i auto*. _^"Tol. Wittmore volunteered the statenieiit that the State limit is • fifteen tons. He wanted to know • whether the Ocean City bridge will t carry more than seven tons of weight. Harry Headlev, manager of the j bridge company, said that the bridge I will carry more than seven tons; that seven tons ia only an arbitrary p ruling of the company, f The piling under the bridge. Mr. , 'Massey stated, will last for -thirty I years, according to the report of the i engineer in charge of the operation, i 1 Manager Heudley said that an enI gineer from the State Utility Com- | I mission examines the bridge twice a , . year, and except on one occasion, when ice did some damage to the . piling, the engineer's report* have . always been complimentary. His ' , only recommendation last year was that the foundations be repaired. ' Mr. Massev, addressing President Burton, said that the bridge company does not want to lay an obstacle <1 the elimination of toll from the s bridge. •Assemblyman Bosweli said that r this bridge question is one affect- j the seashore resorts and rural districts of Cape May- County and ,, •also Somers' Point. The charging of c toll on this' bridge keeps thousands of people from Cape May County. The State motor vehicle fund* are applicable to the elimination of toll ® road*. The speaker said that he ? that the State is handicapped \ by lack of funds. The law at the resent Ome is such that, If the h ridge company la willing, an agree- F meat could I* made for deferred b payments. It is not beyond the of possibilities to make this w free. Mr. Bosweli said, and he p suggested that the commission can v work out a fesiable plan along the of taking over the bridge, main- ,, taining it and paying the money over ,, when the funds are available. • , It was stated by Mr. Burton that commission will submit a proKition that will be approved by the ?■ te's attorney general. hi WRITES THE MAYOR C.
