JtJLY 14. 1921 ■cntwert .1 tt>- r-i CUj -/ ' THE State authorities appear to I* .letermlned ihU year that all automobile owner* spending the rummer or a large part of the season In this city shall provide themselves wjtft the required license, and in their ef fort* along thi* line they will I# assisted by the memhers of the "l"edl ; police force. Thi* i» only right and fair to the hundreds of visitors who ' comply with the law. There have been . flagrant violation* of the re- ^ quiremcnts of the State in past sea i sons, and the time ha* come to call j a halt. MANY of the business men report ; most satisfactory increases in tliaifJi daily receipts during the month of J July — in a number of instances the < receipts showing a big increase over ] the same time last year. Not a few , of the merchants fett a trifle worried ( after Memorial Day, when they tool v in more money than ever before dur- J ing that holiday period, and then followed a comparative slump. But ' from last Saturday and Sunday un- , til after Labor Day, from every pre*- I ent indications, this summer's bud- , ness in 'almost every line will be far i ahead of any other year. \ . t OCEAN CITY is this week having its annual visitation of prominent ^ educators from almost every section - of New Jersey, the occasion bein/ "Schoolmen's Week" in connection with the Ocean City State Summer 8ehool. We take pleasure in wel- 1 coming these men to our shores. They are engaged in a most laudable work, one in which every citisen, and especially parents, should be as much interested as are ihe instructor*. We trait their visit to Ocean City will be both pleasant and beneficial to them; that they will leave with memories that will cause them to be anxious to return in 1922.

ACCORDING to reports, there are bright prospects that the automobile bridge across Great Egg Harbor Bay, from Ocean City to 8omers' Point, will be freed from toll possibly by August 1. Will there be^a' public demonstration to mark (his great event? Some of the civic bodies should take steps to this end. Let there be a general jolification, because free entry to Ocean City over this bridge will mean much in many ways to this resort. There can be no question as to this. The construction of the electric line between Atlantic City and Ocean City gave a remarkable impetus to the growth of this resort, as did the building of the auto bridge, but the removal of toll charges from this roadway will mean1 one of the moat advanced forward steps imaginable. THE life of a city official here in the summer season, at least, 'is not one resembling in any way a bed of "roses. Particularly is this true of those officials who come in direct contact with the cottagers and similar visitors. The cottager grows Irri- ' table— and justly— when the garbage collector, for instance, neglects hi* duty, either through carelessness or by reason of the extent of territory to be covered, and forthwith he telephones or buttonholes the mayor or dty clerk. There is something on the street that arouses the Ire of another cottager, and he telephones or writes, or otherwise tells his trouble* | to some dty official. Now there is ( strong objection to the ruling prohibiting the transportation buses from coming into the resort above Thirtyfourth street, the claim being made by a large number that It" will keep hundreds of visitors from taking this L trip. Oh top of this the Board of Education is insisting that the city build a new high school in order to properly accommodate the growing | needs of the resort. There is no | question that another school building is needed, and that the camp grounds provide en excellent site, but the dty of Ada] s, much as they wish to i Accede to the demands of the educators, are compelled to view the
