Ocean City Sentinel OCEAN CITY PRINTING AND PUBLISHING CO. OCKAN CITY. - - NEW JERSEY Bell Phone" No. 138- J ruV "iqlT br* Mriiilr' ad*»r»J 10. JUI work iirorapllr Jon* b, rxprrwM THURSDAY, Jl'l.Y 2S. 1921 OCEAN CITY GOING AHEAD That Ocean City is forging nhca.l. ami leaving many other seashore resorts in the rear. Home fur in the. rear insofar a* good, substantial progress Is concerned, i.« demonstrated on almost every siilc. Those who come to this resort for week-end -outings fln<l- that usually the passengers lined up tiefore the ticket windows are asking for tickets to Ocean City in a proportion of about three to one , for the other South Jersey resorts. Both the Keailing and "Pennsy" have teen having good business to Ocean City this summor, and more particularly may this be said of the Read- ( ing. which is the popular road with commuters. Building Inspector H. C. Smith says that, while July has always been called or regarded lis a dead month in the building industry in this city, | he has already Issued permits for | buildings in various parts of the re- > sort whose value will approximate f $35,000. According to reliable re- ( ports, there will be much building ] here during the coming fall, plans v having been projected for cottages i and apartments that will be a credit * to the city. WARNING TO SlIRF BATHERS ' There, are •probably many among the vbritow here thia summer who are thoroughly unfamiliar with the treachery of the sea, and yet they will go into the surf with the same stale of mind as though about to take a swim in the old mill pond. The result frequently is that in a few moments they have been carried beyond their depths and are in imminent peril of losing their lives. Very often they not only endanger their own Uves, but those who attempt/to effect their rescue. The sea has been rather wild so: far this season, and there have been more stranger* indulging In surf bathing here this year than ever before. The result has been that?" the members of the beach patrol ^Xave had their hands full on a number of occasions trying to take care of the foolish or ignorant. Those who don't . know the seas are the ones usually \ most careless. We would advise the amateur swimmer not to try to go across to Europe by arm and leg power in the watei^ it ean'yhaalone. Be content to stay within easy reach of the lifeguards. Then, if something happens there is not likely to be any loas of life. THE increasing amount of business at the Ocean City post office 1 this summer causes the Government authorities to seek larger quarters according to word receive. I ' from : Washington, and Postmaster Smith is now asking for proposals for the famishing of suitable accommodations. More room and nitre clerks, during the rush hours, which extend over a considerable part of the morning and afternoon, are surely needed in the local office. The postal authorities recognize the public j needs here, and they will en.leavor to satisfy the demands. WHILE the residents of the eity In the vicinity of Third street and the Boardwalk regret extremely the ' loas sustained by Dr. Amandus Johnson through the fire early Friday moming, many of them declare that they will oppose the construction of a building of this kind in that neighborhood in the future. They suy . they will not take the* risk from fire, and that, if there iwc prospects of the erection of another frame building of thi> character near their • homes, they will carry the matter into j the courts. THE Philadelphia Rotarians, in the goodness of their hearts, will give a lot of youngsters from that eity a great outing in this resort August 9. It b well that there are such men in ! the world— men who occasionally, at least, hare some consideration forj the less fortunate young brother. ;
I i The Hotarian is u regular fellow, : elsfe he wouldn't be a Rotarinn. p MEMBERS ..f the Ocean City Beach Patrol, under command of . Capt.
