J. a. *rrond cU*. moil matin NO OPES SUNDAY X The Sentinel recently expressed tw opinion that the great majority of the cottagers ami others interested In the. progress and success of Ocean City 1 are opposed » a mi! open Sunday ; here, and we are sure tliat this is Every once in a while, however. .!. one se^s evidences of a desire to • break through the' local ordinance •' bearing on sales in this city on Sun- ' day, as witness th^ case of two j Boardwalk business men haled hefore the police justice, a few evenings r since. They both were served last ■' season" with copies of the ordinance bearing on Sunday traffic in Ocean j City, including the sale «^f loose candy yet apparently they, with others, de- j eided to "take a chance." n Leniency was shown with the threat that if again similarly accused they will l>e fined the limit. 3 Ocean City has "loosened up" con- 0 siderably in the last eight or ten ^ years in the matter of Sunday busi- , ness and there has been no great ; objection to the sale of various arti- ; des that are actually required and • h are essential to the comfort of visitoA. The dtjr with the idea of mak- g ing the Sunday visitors pleased, has given tadt consent to the sale of boxed candies— salt water taffy and the like— but still some of the dealers si do not seem to be satisfied. f< Ocean City is determined to have hl a quiet, family like Sunday, as she F has always hail, and which has induced thousands of strangers to come to this resort. • If there are among the business w men those sNjo will not obey the city ordinance, they should be made t.> pay the penalty without further ado. They know the cooilitions here and they must abide by them. Don't make the ordinance a farce. 10 h«

BUILDING ACTIVITY |o There has been unusual activity in wl building lines in Ocean City this summer, ami there is every reason to be- V lieve that the coming fall-will wit- *" nets the construction of many new = eottagas in this reeor*. There ware building permits for if bouses valued at $6.5 350 during the month of July, and Biilding Inspec tor H. Ca Smith .-.aid the latter part of last week, that he had issued per- Q n.its in August up to that time for buildings whose approximate value L ♦40,000. — Ocean City apparently is getting into a stride that promises much ir. tbe way of growth within the next few years. IT is announced that three and a half million dollars has boen cut from the expenditure rolls of the Government Printing Office since George H. Carter has been public printer. Of this amount, $2,316,786 will be returned to the Treasury Department out of the printing appropriation for the fiscal year, while $1,123^36.70 ! is the estimated 'saving frtftn the appropiiations of the current fiscal year ; which Mr. Carter has reported to the bureau of the budget. During the months of April, May and June Mr. Carter effected a reduction amount-' ing to half a million dollars a month ' in the expanditum-of the offic actual decrease for that pcfVT as compared -with the same three months in 19a0 being $1,508,623.71. Rigid economy is credited as the cause for the saving. NEARLY 2000 poor "kiddies" from Philadelphia have enjoyed the Ocean hreexes for a few hours within the J lart two Weeks through tho thoughtfulness and generosity of charitably inclined men and women, most of them from the Quaker city. They have had their reward by seeing the pleasure of the youngsters. And we all know what the Master has said, i REPORTS are to the effect that many of the visitors. here are not apending much money, but tHs is a condition that -appears to exist in ' most of the seashore resorts this sum- j mer. j
