SOUTH OCEAN CITY FOLK M OFFICIALS
President Patton Praises Municipal AuthoritiesPlans Building . Membirs of the South Ocean City Improvement Association cnjoye<l a soda!' time In the Union chapel, Fifty-fifth street and Asbury avenue, Friday evening. They also heard an interesting talk by Thomas H. E<1» wards, a Philadelphia business man and cottager, on some of his experience* on his tour of Euyope, he having only recently refujned from the' other side. He made-Ah^ trip with a number of Rotarians, he being a member of this organisation. ' '"There were also short addresses by Mayor Champion, City Solicitor Bowwell and I "resilient George W. Patton, of the Association. One of the most interesting reports was that made by Mrs. E. H. \ Collins, of Philadelphia, chairman of , \ the playground committee of the' association. She reported that ■wings and slides for the little ones have been placed in position on the lots at Fifty-second street, and that . — the "kiddles" are denying much i pleasure from these. Mr. Patton announced that plans, - have been made for a community I building to I* constructed at Fifty- ' third street and Central avenue. It! is the. thought to have stores and ap- I art menta on the lower 'floors, with a | large meeting room on the upper > Mayor Champion expressed his appreciation of the splendid work be- t ing done by the South Ocean City I Improvement Association and said - that he was glad to be present and J meet the cottagers who, take such! commendable pride in their section of J Ocean City. President Patton said the members ! • of the association feel that they are 1 t getting a square deal from the city r o officials. Referring to the fine road i way on Central avenue from Thirtysecond street, Mr. Patton said they 1 [ appreciated this road. There are some who say that they got the road i " from the County Board of Freeholders, but it must be understood that tha City Commissioners were the prime movers and really the men who secured the construction of this road. For this and other like improvements , J now enjoyed by the South Ocean City J cottagers, they are all thankful, Mr. J Patton assure. I Mayor Champion. Continuing, he said that the cottagers « artf in hearty accord with the dty of- t fieials. There must be a "get-togeth- _ or" spirit for the ultimate upbuild- t ing of the. South end of Ocean City. * Solicitor Bos well referred to the dutie! of office of the three City S(_ Commissioners, and said that organi- j zations such as this should make it a point to get in touch with the of-; 4 f cials, tell them what they need in J the way nf imprn -tnen'i and wort j J srith the officials in harmony. . ' South Ocean City has a great future, greater possibly than any other j i section of the resort. The bridge j ' over Corson's Inlet has been a dedd- j ed help to South Ocean City, and ' more benefits will come to that uart jf the resort when the bridge across [ Great Egg Harbor is freed from - toll. Mr. Boswell spoke in praise 01 the, wonderful improvements made by ] , the cottagers in South Ocean City ' 1 within the last year, and told the peopls of the great future of that sec- i ' tion because of its having the only available ocean front land here. ' The association's original constitution and by-laws having become - somewhat antiquated, a new consti- , tution and by-laws were adopted at < the meeting. There was community dnginjj, led . "> Mr. Patton, with Mr. Collins at ( the organ. * lee Cream and cake were served by * a committee of the women merhen led by Mrs. John Mac Sherry. The J women members were out in large ■ .lumicrs. Charles D. Hits, the hustling secretary of the association, says thit t?c \ next meeting of the organization will ! o* neld Friday evening, August 19, when officers drill be elected. FISHERMAN FINED ; On complaint of Game Warden - Steel, of Cape May County, A. Van- < Sawn, of Linwood. wu^fined $100 and coids" a few du^go, by Justice 1 of the Peace Garret&n, of Cape May ; j Court House. The man was accused j , of iiligal -net fishing in the Delaware ; Bay, and he pleaded guilty. 0 MOONLIGHT SAIL The Ocean City Chapter, No. 58, O. E. S., will give a moonlight Hail j Monday evening, August 15, from ' Sixth street and Pleasure avenue, on ' the yacht Peerless. The boat will leave at 8 o'clock, it is announced by . Mrs. Ben. Henderson, chairman of' the committee. CASINO CARD PARTY The annual benefit card party of the Casino Club will be given on i Thursday afternoon, August 25, und I promises to surpass all similar for-i mer affairs. Two trophies are always given to «aci. table, and this year* trophic* will be of unusual I value. Ticket* may be procured from any of the members of the Ca-j sino Club. ' i!
