One of the Most Important Parts of Fishing is to Have Proper Bait ' Some people while out fishing with others, often wonder why the fellows in the other boat near them is able to catch twice ar many fish as they are getting. If some of the rules below are followed more correctly as ttrhojt there will be lots more success, — < ^ There are a number of baits that may be, according to- the pilots of the bo5St;—»uccessfu!l.v used in the hoy. One of the commonest baits used art. clams because they are always to be had. Whenever possible, to secure a supply, however, they get crabs which are still better but hard to keep alive. One of the best baits yet discovered and use.! by I everyone whenever possible are mussels. These bivalves are not easily j gottan on the Bayside but grow by! the millions aiy w here in the sounds. Some of the more enterprising fishermen gather the muscles, steam them slightly and then salt them down in a jar using just a little salt. This preserves them so that they will keep for a week even in the hottest weather and /or fishing in the bay they have' been voted the best' possible asset to a good catch. Host of the members of the parties going out to the fishing grounds in j the bay prefer to use rod and reel i and this fact contributes to the loss ' of many "big ones" that get away.; Not because a rod and reel is used,! but because the owners use too light , a line and too fragile hooks. Fori bay fishing a reel line while not as: large as a hand line should be strong j enough to take care of a chanel ' bass that may take the bait at any j * time and to land him provided the sportsman uses care in "playing" the unexpected big fellow. Another shortcoming of many of the tackle outfits is the light weight dipsy. For the bay nothing less than a pound dips/ or sinker should he used because of the strong currents For chanel bass or drum fish at. even heavier lead should be "used. The favorite reel line outfit for chanel bass is a thirty-two thread line one to two hundred feet in length and a lead of a pound and a half. Of eburse a heavy hook is needed but thb fishermen will not often go amiss on the hooks because practically any of them on the market sold as drum hooks will land the forty to seventy-five pound red or black drum or bring him to the sands or side of the boat where he can be brought in "out of the wet" with a gaft. At present the fish being taken in the bay are nearly all weakfish and croakers, but the edvent of the drum is expected daily. And occasionaily one is caught The weak fish are running about two pound. W. H. Harris, of this dty, and Roy Faweett, of Millville, caught 11 weak fish, the largest weighing 8 pounds, in Great Egg Harbor Bay a few nights since. A. D. Cummins, a Philadelphia business man spending the summer seasons here, went outside in his boat Thursday, accompanied by C. C. Wanamaker, and James Sword, of Philadelphia. They brought back 54 weak fish, all of good size. . CLASSIFIED ADVERTISEMENTS lit ft Haw minimus, than*. Tl*. A t% ft mat radactioa on hk t— Ulna lamrtioan. UR"ii!m|S< U*nMf Aatrtsrr stvnw.
