Ocean City Sentinel ocean city printing and publishing co. OCEAN CfTY. - - NEW JKKSKY . Bell Phone No. 138- J J «k work (.nmiMly doaa h» Mmni; THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 25. 1921 ( A DIFFERENT KIND OF ADVERTISING We particularly want to call your attention to the full page advertisement imofting Ocean City that appears in this issue. It is entirely different in that it tells of the ad- , vantages of Ocean City and not of ' an Individual business enterprise. We who live here know the ad- j vantages that Ocean City offers during the months of September ami | October. We know that for many i reasons they are the very beat two ' months of the year. The men who made possible the full page advertisement know it and believe others would take advantage ( of a period of recreation in Ocean • City If they knew IL These met : believe that anything that helps '• Ocean City helps us all. They have 1 backed that belief with their dollars. .!
NO FUNDS AVAILABLE Was Announcement Made by State * Highway Department ( The announcement made several ] several weeks ago through the State j Highway Department, that there a would be no funds available in 1922 i for carrying out the construction of j the State Highways, has arroused the 2 interest of the rami users that the a farmer organisations of the State 4 have appointed a special committee f of Ave to work with a similar com- 1 mittee of the motoring organisations 2 in an endeavor to have the legisla- 3 ture pass a bond bill that was defeated at the last session. 4 The agriculturist* believe that thejc maintenance of the plans for a com- ' 1 plete main highway system, as out-! z lined by the present Highway Com-; 3 mission, is of the utmost importance 1 [_ to the economic life of the State, and ' j are preps ml to exert the entire 2 strength of their powerful organic*- 3 lions in seeing that the millions which 4. have already been spent upon our _ highways to bring them up to their' present condition Is not wasted. All available funds for highway construct! 00 «iat wilt be derived from I the motor vehicle fund for next year will be needed to construct the new bridge across the Ran tan river, be-, tween the Amboys, the Federal govern merit making it mandatory* that this work be completed next year. This will leave nothing for the carrying on of new highway work. The plan proposed by the motorists and; the agriculturist* call for a fifty' million dollar bond issue, part of!. , which will be for reconstruc&m of — bridges, and the remainder for the! building of roddem highways. The coalition of interest* mark* the first time in history when the fanners and. motorists have gotten together for a common cause, and it is believed that through their efforts that • a real plan for highway construction ; and financing will be evolved. * NATION-WIDE MOVEMENT lf everyone born and ream) in this town had remained here to make his permanent home, we should he a dty j of many thousands, more population than we now number. j = On the other hand, cities and towns elsewhere that have attracted our youth would never have been founded, perhaps, and America would remain as it was in pioneer days— a great continent with a few scattered eWes — all toe large, all over-congest-ed. But the opportunity that calls men away from their native homes keeps the great movement alive, with the result that praAically every comer of America has in It a representative of Ocean City. However, the home town always has its interest for the people who heeded the calf to go elsewhere, and news of its progress and the doings of it* people i* welcome news to the native and former resident, wherever he may now be located. Correspondence, however ~ faithful, cannot cover all the news anJ gossip, and seldom ileal* with more than family affairs. The perfect medium! of course, is the home town newspaper, which prints ail the news or all the people. Some of these Items, while of limited interest to you, 4. might be of great interest to one away from home. There is now a nation-wide move- 1 ment on foot, sponsored by the National Editorial Association and other agencies, in which this paper is taking part, looking to a stimulation of interest in the Home Town Paper. RETURNED HOME Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Fox have closed their home on the Gardens and returned to Camden for the winter. |
