DAYS OF THE BIG FISH ARE NOW HERE Fresh and Salt Water Fishermen Are Making Rig Catches An if Nature hail reserved the liest iM>rt for the Ia.it of the season, the ' 'lays of the big fish" are now on Uie . .deodar to delight fresh" anil Uilt ■ -iter anglers with the largest catches. ■f the year. Humlreils of sportsmen, a result, are digging out roils anil , i eels, once laid away . for the winter, .iiilvarc hustling to join the growing ••Ian of autumn anglers. Iu the 'bays and off the coast, 'the TVgest weakfish are now taking the l lit -great "yellow-fins" or "tide run- ' .era" that often j-each a weight of ten pounds or more. Big blue fish, striped bass, late croakers and flounders, also nip putting on' theirs farewgll bouj^ with fishermen. Fresh water streams ami lakes are growing a weekly crop, of "five-pound bass" stories and tales <*f "Yard-long pickerel." Yellow perch fishing in fresh water streams is at at* best and the "big fellows" of all the other finney tribes seem ravenously hungry just now. Woodcock and jaccoon. occupy the lage'with the opening, October 1, of the fall hunting season in New Jersey. They will provide sport, "one in the daytime, the other chiefly at night, as preliminaries to the opening of 'he big act with quail, pheasants, rabbits and other upland game, on November 10. There Is much difference of opinion among the Jersey sportsmen as to the advantage and disadvantage of an early woodcock season. The chief ol>-| jection is that it offers too much opportunity for poaching by the unprincipled hunter. The game laws,' however, provide extra and severe! penalties for the killing of uplal.l game between October 1 and Novem- j •*r 10, and this law is rigidly en-'=-forced by wardens. Many , sportsmen | are now advocating an additional 1 penalty providing permanent loss "of: hunting license for the poacher who lakes unfair advantage of fellow hunters by killing rabbits, quail and pheasants ahead of the upland game season under the ruse of seeking wookcock. The game law permits a bag limit of six woodcock a day. The woodcock season will close November TO. A crisp, frosty night, with possibly a -hunter's moon ami a section pf swamp pr woodland where the hounds will have a fair chSnce of picking up the trial of a wily rarcoon, provide the proper setting for nne of the most thrilling fall sports that New Jerseycan offer. <?aan hunting has been growing in popularity among sportsmen imparts of the State where these animals are found <wfn umorous trained 'coon dogs havejfcon imported from other States t'y*ork with native hounds. With a ptwied season during most of the year, p f

the raccoon, which was threatened j with extermination in New Jersey, is now increasing in numbers. IT The opening of the duck season will IL J'° " Party of sportsmen off for a week-end shooting trip on the vnchi Peerless. In the party will be Mayor [j, Joseph ti. Champion, Joseph W riggins.
