Witzemann, leader of I the orchestra that played the public concerts in the music pavilion some ago, in a letter to Mayor Joseph Champion. This statement by Mr. Witsemann receives fhe unqualified ipiiorsement of Charles A. Frost, a Boardwalk business man who was very active in the circles that favored orchestra music, who also state* in a letter to the that in the judgment of many. Mr. Witzemann is the one eligible man who can bring Ocean City at the least possible cost the first line musicians of the Philadelphia Ochestra.
£ HALLOWEEN HINTS Fancy Dress Costumes, Games and Other Information Below are given a few descriptions of fancy dress costumes which are appropriate for Hallowe'en, its Coloni^Gjrl o- Full gathered white or pale pink . skirt with panniers and tight-fitting iy bodiCe of pink-flowered cretonne, st V-neck edged with wide ruffle, elbow ; sleeves edged with ruffles. The hair i Is should be powdered and arranged in j o- high pompadour. Black "beauty spot*, i at side of face near the eye.. i '*-s Fatima Costume y Baggy Turkish trousers of bright ' yellow silk or sateen, while blouse ' with short sleeves; sleeveless black s velvet jacket trimmed with gilt braid; carry cigarette case. Hair bound tight 1 with red rose in one side. n Arab ,
le Use sheet as drapery which falls l>e- ] (j low knees, beltad in at waist line with i dagger on left side. Sleeves are loose I ,1 ^and flowing and sandals are used i - upon the feet. The color scheme might ; be purple dropped below the white. ' K The small white turban may have a I }_ touch of purple also. I Little Boy Blue ' d ! Very small blue silk blouse, short ( • | trousers of same material. Blue or ,g black stockings ami slippers. Pointed bat, which may be black or blue, pre- , ferably the latter. Carry horn. '1 Dawn A very effective costume to repre- ' sent dawn is as follows: Pinkish gray] * long flowing gown. The hair is worn ' loose the only ornament being a golden star-decorate<r crown. With the exception of a few gold stars decorating j the hem of gown anil edges of sleeves, no other trimming is necessary, simj, plicity being the most important factor , L ' of this costume. i, If you want to join in the fun at I. the Hallowe'en celebration, for good- - g ness sake don't be afraid to turn your i- head or "crack a smile" when it comes to games, for one of the most important parts of the party is the playing of games in which ill can take part. Telling "fortunes" is an indispensa- ) I ; ble feature of the Hallowe'en frolic. . j ' An easy and effective way to contrive . a booth would be an ordinary folding clotheshorse draped with sheets and J (( black crepe paper dotted with ghostly _ figures. Each one in turn goes into the booth where a wise old pythoness f "leads him into the future." f j For a jolly Hallowe'en game scoop out a very large pumpkin and make I , a Jack-o'-lantern face in it, with an ' especially large mou'h. Put the , lantern on'a firm table at the end of the room being careful not to have breakable objects near. Give each a person a small soft ball, and in turn j - let each try to throw it into the month | • . of the lantern. Every time a player | is successful, he or she is given a fun- i ny Hallowe'en favor. Popcorn balls, Q lollipops and pumpkin stickpins are f among the favors most appreciated. C s The telling of ghost stories is an c effective form of amusement at a party of this kind. Weird piano music 1 would add to the general effect while e someone with ability should entertain v the guests with these unearthly tales. I Partners may be found in various t ways — by matching cats or witches _ that have been cut in two (each one r into a different shape) or by giving. numbers to the boys and correspondB ing lumbers to the girls; by pulling s strings with numbers attached to the end, those corresponding being part- ^ ; ner* or by having the boys -choose hal- , lowed out walnut shells upon opening * s ' which they will find the name of their |( partner for the evening.
ON VACATION ' t Sentinel Receives Letter from Rector - of Holy Trinity Church ' The Rev. Joseph W. Watts, rector of Holy Trinity Episeopal Church, A writes the Sentinel from Richmond, Virginia, where he is spending a vacat tion. His letter in part is as follows:, i "Norfolk, I found a most interesting, t city. A trip to the U. S. Naval Base-" a and one to the Old Point Comfort were , - thoroughly enjoyed. The pilgrimage . ' i to Jamestown and to Williamsburg ii was one that gave tremendous impetuf. c to patriotism. The service in the open ■( at Jamestown was most impressive. _ . It was easji to picture the first serv-' _ e ice held there by the Rev. Robert " Hunt, of the Church of England in I f (June, 1607. The tower of the old'| c stone church is still standing. The t Bishop of Southern Virginia gave a i most helpful address while 900 pilgrims sat or stood on the grass in 0 i wrapt attention. f Another day I was taken by friends - to the old St John's Church, Rich- ~ s mond, and sat in the pew formerly ( :, occupied by Patrick Henry from which . e he arose and made his renowned >, speech which ended with 'give me n liberty or give me death.' " t Rev. Mr. Watts is attending the 1921 s convention of the Episcopal Brother- ; hood of St Andrews.
