THERE art! too many of us who are , always saving "I ought to do this" or . "I ought to do that." Boys don't" get ' i into that habit; it'* too risky. You < may easily become a failure through - it. The real man say* "1 shall do ; , this" or "I shall do that." o i WHAT a wonderful fellow that man p is who "never mokes a mistake." You " know llim. We all have ut least one * on our acquaintance list. He cannot j conceive that it is human to err, and ; therefore he permit* no one, from the j o wife down, to doubt anything he lays a or doe*. A characteristic of this J * mighty man is that he insists on personaliy koing everything that is to be r done in his vicinity because there'* no- ; C

body who can do, it right, or anyhow a* well as he. We just simply hold our breath in fear of what will happen to the community when be dies. Of course everything will go to smash. Of course! IF anybody should ask what we think is the most crying, social need of the times in America we'd give him this answer: TAKE THE ROMANCE OUT OF STEALING. Most of us forget one thing. Every real male youngster growing into man's inches carries in his bones more or less of the spirit of recklessness, or of adventure and daring. It is the heriflge of masculinity, and when directed aright by education or by natural good brains in the boy himself, it is a fine thing. But when misdirected, the lad goes bad in one way or another. /" America doesn't handle thieving as it should be handled. We make too much of a romance out of it — anyway, something that looks like romance to the immature «r degenerate brain of the thief. The trial in a crowded j J court room, the stories in the papers 1 of desperate deeds, the printing of his ' picture, are glorification to the young fool who has been caught. We would prohibit by laws the printing of a thief's name. Give him a number as soon as he is arrested. J We would make H impossible for j his picture to appear outside of a , "rogues' gallery." I We would have the trial occur in a I barred court roc^n. And we must quit the use of "romantic" words, such as bandit, gun- , man and the like. ! Let's call stealing, STEALING, and 1 a tirief, a THIEF. And as for gunmen, they are mere- | !y common murderers. Also cowardly curs because, in a holdup, they I shoot unarmed, defenseless people. — o I twenty years ago Taken From the Files of the Sentinel, j November 21, 1M1 Mrs. Risley, of Atlantic County, is ■ visiting her sons, Lewis and Daniel Risley, in this city, for a few days. , Luther L. "Awarded 'first prize of $50 for the , best steamer in line at the Firemen's , Parade, Philadelphia,- October 3, 1901." It is in the form of a shield,, about 5x7 inches, and is to be placed on the steamer. , WILL ORGANIZE Dr. J. Thomley Hughes and Ber- 1 tram M. Darby are behind an effort to form a brass band in Ocean City|' of at least 25 pieces. There are that . number of men in the city now who 1 have had band experience. It is the idea of Mr. Hughes and Mr. Darby to get them together in time, if possible, to have them march with the b league in Wiidwood's Mummers' parade on New Year's day. ' * 6a..

SECOND SCOUT TRIP NEEDED At a meeting of the scouts held No- , vember 15th. in the High School Building, some of the boy* were dismissed foF conduct unbecoming scouts. to remain in the troup must coni duct themselves in *ucR a manner as l»e a credit to the scout*. A new , patrol was formed and the much talked over cake sale took place yesterday at Nicker-on'- market. Four boys passed second das* signalling a* follows: Sam Breekley, Dave Ber.fer, Bill Johnson and J. I G rosier. The troup will go to Pleasantville Friday, November 25th, to aid the scout troup* there to celebrate Pleasantville Day. There are still a lot of boy* wanting • to join the scout movement here but Troup No. 1 is over its quota al the present time and a new scoutmaster is desired so that Troup No. 2 can be 1 started. There is some talk of having girl scouts. The success of this seems ' to depend almost entirely upon the securing of some young lady, who will 1 act a* scoutmaster. I Scoutmaster Eugene Knapp, speaking of the spirit among the boy* of ' troup tells the fullowing story: ' "When I had postponed the hike for • Saturday, November 12th, because of the inclement weather, little did I think that my services would be in ' demand to take a bunch out. Five however, came to my house and that the hike take place. Much my surprise, when camp was reached I found about 30 bovs assembled and naturally was very well pleased to 1 find such spirit among the scout*. After a game or two afid the passing of tests for second daas scouts, we all sat down to supper, 'individaully cooked,' which we greatly enjoyed. then gathered 'round the Couhcil fire where experiences were told gnd plans were talked over, after wMcli / we started for home." In reference to a second troup bei'tor , j Mr. Knapp gives this mes-\ -age: "Get behind it big brothers and push." The scouts are planning a big rally here for July 4th, 1922.
