PRESIDENT PRAISES GAPE MAY COUNTY Luther C. Opden Tells Why • County is Nation's Playground ^ By Lutiitr C. Oplro, PrrsiJfiit Cape- May County Chamber of CoinCape May County U a most wonderful county, though most of it* people having so long been accustomed to their surrounding*, seem to fail to realize that there U ' be re anything out of the usual. In what othencountj of the country can be found such a combination of coast line, with magnificent beaches, and immediately back of them such fertile fields as are to be found in our mainland ? In our settled complacI cnc'y. do we fully realize that our beaches are the most wonderful in the ' ( world? So hard and smooth, and sloping so gently, that they arc the natural playground for the world; forj! here the little tots d* play in the rip- j pies at the waters' edge. while their elders sport in the deeper waters and! plunge through the breakers, and all . \ .with perfect safety. No rugged rucks, or loose and , shifting sands, render in any way un-( safe the hathing beaches of this coun- , J ty. Nature has provided us lavishly j ' with wonderful opportunities — the de- ' velopment of which is only Just begun, = and the future of which cannot be ful- ' ly forseen. •Our mainland area: Just plain; fsrmland;ycs, farmland, to be sure.; capable of raising almost any desired crop and under careful and proper tillage, capable of undreamed of development, and producing in great abundance, making it if desired, a land not only of plenty, but a bower of beauty, as well — a Joy to all who may behold. | Running throught the country in ; every direction are roads of which we j may be justly proud and over which come into our county the thousands of i tourists every year, and it is parti cu- 1 % Jariy along these roads that the Coun- j ty Chamber of Commerce desires to j see the- developments that shall cause these tourist* as they shall return to! their homes to proclaim Cape May County, The Countjr Beautiful Can it be doae? Yes, and with1 comparatively little effort, if the own- : ers of property along these roads shall l once get the vision and all Join in the ! sport. How shall it be done? Clean out the underbrush briars, tear down the old dilapidated fences; tear down or; repair "tumble down" barns and buildings. Then having destroyed the ' unsightly commence to build up. Paint the Buildings In places of rickety fences, plant fruit trees, shade trees, hedges or flowers — or anything that will be beautifnl and pleasing to the eye of the tourist. We 'are told of the beauties of travel among the splendidly kept farms of Massachusetts and through the sections of New York, where the fOadside is lined with beautiful but profitable — 01 of the wonders of Call- | fomia roads, lined on all sides withj wonderful flowers and foliage. Cape May County can do all these' things— and make our roadsides just as noteworthy. Some job! do you say? Yes, it Is some Job, but what is there that is worth while that isn't some job to secure? Get the vision of The County Beautiful and then get busy on your own property and the job may soon be done. *: Do you want help or suggestions? The Public Improvement Committee 01 the County dumber of Commerce j is ready to help with suggestions at any time, and will, if necessary, assist in securing seeds and plants. Write the chairman, C. A. Norton, Wildwood, and see how quickly assistance is Shall we all join in the effeort and make old Cape May County really The County Beautiful?
